Finished the book yesterday. Very impressed by the writing and by how Hoult manages to picture Claire's state, past and present. One gets the impression (I started googling) that dementia - beyond memory loss - was less familiar, given the responses of some of the characters. The challenging part for a writer is how to make this material for a novel. I think she did well, and the structure of the book serves the purpose. Now preparing to read Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov - a book that uses the Alzheimer theme in a totally different - narrative manner. Did anyone read other books by Hoult?
Just finished this one - very sad, but also the writing was amazing. Like Jan mentioned, the author effectively conveyed Claire's state and you developed sympathy for her (and all of the other characters) in this tough situation.
