Here are the best writing tips I've learned in college from textbooks, writers, and professors:
1. On your first draft, really just focus on writing. Just try your best to get draft #1 down, and don't worry so much about things like finding the perfect word or description, for example. the revisions can be done later :)
2. If it's not going to move the storyline along or advance the plot, take it out. Often times, too many unnecessary adjectives and descriptions make for a lengthy, weak story.
3. Write a character's internal thoughts in italics.
4. If you're ever struggling with writer's block, try "freewriting." Freewriting is basically where you just write whatever thoughts are in your head. Don't worry about spelling, grammar, or anything...just simply write. This will help to clear your mind and also get you ready to start writing again.
5. I saved the weirdest tip for last lol. If you're ever stuck, and you don't know how to move the story forward, change the weather. I know it sounds really weird, but trust me, if you change the weather in your story it will help you to continue writing, at least for a little bit ;)
Hope these help!

Yeah I like writing internal thoughts in italics because it just makes it easier to distinguish...and the 5th tip is honestly just humorous 😂

@Casey that's awesome! I know....freewriting can be a bit strange sometimes because of what ends up coming out 😂
Also, use Comic Sans to write your rough drafts. Trust me.
