Pulp Fiction discussion

Finally finished writing a review of The Galaxy Club. Perhaps the single weirdest hardboiled crime novel I've read, breaks almost every rule of conventional storytelling I can think of but somehow makes it work. Also incorporates a lot of fantasy elements into what's otherwise a realistic crime novel set in 1970 New Mexico without the author ever making any attempt to rationalise or explain them.

The closest comparison I can think of is somewhere between Jim Thompson and Thomas Pynchon at his weirdest, except without Pynchon's trademark sense of whimsy.
