When we thought this would be the last of Reading with Style, we decided to throw the kitchen sink into this one.

Here is a spreadsheet for Non-western, Aged, and Young authors. Please note there are 3 tabs, one for each.

If you are reading for an author *not* on the lists and the birth/death information is not on the GR profile or on Wikipedia, please provide a link to your source here before posting in the Completed Tasks thread.

Just checking, some of the Style descriptions list 10 points, do these apply, or is it just the copy and paste from their standard usage? Aged and Canon, I think.

No, you will not get extra points for any of the styles in this sub-challenge. The definitions are shown in Post #2 of the How to Play thread.

EDIT: Sheesh. Sorry, you'd think I could have proofread those better. I just removed the point values that we post after the name of the style and thought it was good.

Are American Indians considered non-western?

The definitions of the styles are in Post #2. See:

Non-Western: read a book by author born and citizen of/residing in a non-Western country: Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia (which includes Russia & all former USSR countries).

No, born in the United States never counted for nonwestern (not that I can't see considering Native Americans so). You might be thinking of Person of Color, and yes, Native Americans are POC.

Remember, when the GR profile or Wikipedia give age (birth/death info), it isn't necessary to post in this thread.

Would The Master of Ballantrae count for Canon? It is shelved at the BPL as Assignment but not as YA Assignment.

The Lexile rule does not apply to works on the Canon. (Also, the Lexile rule is not in effect for Fall.)

Hello ! Does the YA/Cookbook / Graphic novel rule applies ? If i'm not mistaken, i didn't see it indicated on the post.

I was hoping to use Adam Shoalts for the young style. However, neither GR or Wiki have his birth date. The best I can find is this article:

It says he is 29 in 2016, so he is 36 now. I know he is under 40 because he is 'local boy made good'...... but that may not be good enough for RwS! :)

Yes, he's on the spreadsheet as being born in 1986.

It's the spreadsheet linked in Post #2 of this thread. There are 3 tabs - maybe you didn't see that.

is reading one of those three plays sufficient to fill the task (assuming it is +100 pages)?

Does this author count for aged even though it is her only book? If not, I can use it for Scrabble.

No, sorry. All books must meet the 100 page minimum requirement.

I have read The Comfort Crisis: Embrace Discomfort To Reclaim Your Wild, Happy, Healthy Self by Michael Easter. Goodreads does not show a birthdate for him, yet when I search for information on him, a listing for him from Goodreads with the book title shows a birth year of 1986 but when I click on the link it shows the bio without a birthdate. I have screenshot of the search results. Not sure how I can send it. I haven’t found any other source for his age. May I use this book for “young”?

I don't get that result when I search, but I don't doubt your word. Please include his birth year when you post.

EDIT: I got a different result with a slightly different search. It may be that the author edited out his birth information so that it no longer appears, but search continues to provide it.

Kathleen, yes I can see that same search result in Google with a birthdate of 11 November, 1986. He is a Goodreads Author so he has probably edited his profile and removed the birthdate. I haven't found other evidence, but that shows it was on Goodreads at one time. You can claim Young but please mention this when you post.

I know you can't read an author twice in the one grouping, but if I am completing for the second time, can I read an author that I read the first time around ?

I have other books planned, just getting distracted by other books I want to read ;)

Yes. Repeat from a previous round in a subsequent round are allowed.
