Just a new thread for our chit chat. The old one was full enough and I think there are currently no ongoing conversations.

Thanks, Anika and Rosemary, for joining Joanna as moderators. You're a terrific trio, and I'm sure you'll do a great job!
Yes, what Connie said!! I'm so glad you 3 stepped forward. The continuation of this group makes me so very happy.

I also appreciate you 3 continuing this group! Thanks!
So glad that there are 3 who have taken on this group as a challenge! Congrats and good fortune to y'all. And, thanks!
Echoing the thanks of others. I've been out of the loop for a few seasons and had been planning to come back at the end of the year, so was devastated to see that the group might no longer be here. You've inspired me to get back on the reading trail. I'll do my best to support the new Mods however I can.
And I also want to place on record my thanks and appreciation to the departing Mods. A stellar group!
Does anyone else ever have a book seeming to appear on EVERY list that look at, at a certain time? I really feel that Goodreads wants me to read A Separate Peace by John Knowles, which I feel I had not heard of before 2 weeks ago, and now it seems to appear every time I search a task ....
Apple wrote: "Does anyone else ever have a book seeming to appear on EVERY list that look at, at a certain time? "I know what you mean! I usually look at the reviews and either add it to my wishlist or decide it's not for me.
I gave A Separate Peace 5 stars, but it was not an easy read emotionally.
This is so unusual I have to comment on it. Here it is the 3rd of the month and no one has posted in the Completed Tasks thread. Are you reading? 😂
Haha! That is funny Elizabeth, as I finished a book last night and saw no one had posted yet and I thought "oh, I should wait- don't want to be first" LoL. I still have to write my review, so not quite ready yet, but eeks! I might be first!
I started a Jumbo before the end of August, knowing I wouldn't pass the halfway mark before the 1st. But I keep getting interrupted with watching US Open tennis. It's going to take *much* longer than I'd planned. (But the tennis is really good.)

That’s funny - I was wondering about that too. 😂I am reading two books, one for a 10 and one for a 15. I had just wanted to read the first para of the 15 but then got interested in his story.

You're #1!

Thanks for taking the pressure off! Still have not posted as the book does not fit where I thought it did 😅
I am on my 3rd audio, and taking too much time on my hard copy, but we are painting the kitchen and pulling out hard rubbish. And I was waiting for the last tasks to see what changes I needed to make ;)
@Anika -- I also adored Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. I made my in-person book club read it, to somewhat more mixed feelings. I'm definitely right in the target audience for this book--computer geeky, gamerish folks who grew up in the 80s/90s. Basically, the same people who really liked Ready Player One.

I'll have to put this book on my TBR.

I’m totally the target demographic for both Ready Player One and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow…I think I’m so firmly in that demographic that i can’t fathom anyone NOT loving this book!
While reading, it reminded me of a cross between Ready Player One and Daisy Jones & The Six—both of which were five star reads for me so it makes sense that i loved this one so much…

Valerie wrote: "My problem has been I seem to be attracted to mysteries from the same years"I've had a similar problem, one probably shared by all. I'm missing a lot of early years. I can pick several up with the Dickens task - the authors were born before 1870. The Scrabble task picks up another nearly 1/2 dozen.
And just so everyone knows, this wasn't on my radar when selecting/writing tasks.
On my phone so can’t fo links (why IS that? So annoying!), but just finished reading 84, Charing Cross Road, which includes the later Duchess of Bloomsbury Street. In the later, Helene Hanff is having her portrait painted in Russell Square. Just started Life Class by Pat Barker, reach the third page and the character is walking towards the same Russell Square.
How often does that happen?!?
L'Shana Tova -- Happy new year I meant to post at the start of the Rosh Hashanah holiday on Friday night, but I was at services and then forgot.
I hope everyone has a sweet and happy new year.
And to you, Joanna. Thanks for all your help. I can see your own New Year will be wonderful and the group will be beneficiaries.
This afternoon I started a novel by Robert B. Parker. I was maybe 3 pages in when I thought it sounded so much like Raymond Chandler. So I came to Goodreads to read Parker’s bio. The last sentence is:Parker's acclaim and his thorough background in classic detective literature helped earn him the somewhat unusual commission of completing a Philip Marlowe novel that the great Raymond Chandler had left unfinished.
Bingo! And why haven’t I bothered with Parker before?!!
I've had a busy month! (Helping out with little new grandbaby Isabella). So I'll be doing something I don't usually do: post the month's tasks/reading one after the other. Hopefully I can keep up better for the rest of the season!
I'm glad you've even found time to read, Deedee! We'll be glad to see what you've found time for.Posting a lot of books at once is not much of a problem this early in the season as opposed to the last few days.
I missed that this past weekend was halfway. (It was my granddaughter's birthday yesterday, is that a good excuse?)Anyway, how is everyone doing? I'm on track to finish the Mystery challenge. I have visions of maybe (only maybe) finishing Celebration of Styles.
So is mine, Jayme. I have been fighting a couple of reading slumps as well as have found myself busy with classes and learning through the Senior Center and the USCA's Lifelong Learning programs.Currently I have read half the 10s, started 1 of the celebrations, and finished 1 of the 20s. I am a bit surprised as it wasn't until recently that I thought to check my progress. I doubt that I will finish any of the three sections, though.
