Hi, all!

You may – or may not – have wondered where I am. I’ve been getting my house on the market. Yes, I know I thought I was done, but that isn’t what the inspectors and Realtors think. I’ve also been packing and organizing…and cleaning. (Why is there so much laundry during a move?)

Two pack-rats sure collected a lot of stuff over 29 years. Though I’ve been getting the help of friends and family and a few paid helpers, it is a lot of work – especially hard is deciding to keep something or not, or to give it away – and if so, to whom? Of course, giving up the gazillion books I have slows things down, too. I’ve tossed more than one book in the give-away pile, only to sneak back a pull it out later.

In addition, I’ve been off house-hunting. The good news about all this is I’ve purchased a beautiful new home, single story, and more the size of my current needs. Yay! However, it is being built. As the new house takes four to six months to build, I will have to decide where to rent in the interim. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Needless to say, all this has taken a toll on my GoodReads time. (And reading time!) With regards to GRs, my first priority will be in keeping up with updating the members who have completed or joining challenges in the various groups where I Mod, but you might not see me participating much in the other threads, especially “buddy reads.” Which is killing me. **sniffle** My next priority will be to do the newsletters when it is my turn at rotation. Hopefully, I can start updating in a week or two. Thanks to the other Mods who are stepping in while I’m swamped.

Soon all this craziness will slow down and fade away, and I’ll be back at full participation. Until then, please bear with me.

Thanks!

~Lisa Kay

Lauren (laurenjberman) Congrats on the new house, LK and good luck with the move (and giving the books away. I don't know if I could do it!)

SandyL Good luck with your move and in-between, Lisa Kay! And congrats on the new house - I hope it turns out exactly as you want it!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments Congratulations on your new house, LK!! And sympathy on the packing part. I am in the middle (or end sort of!) of the same thing. It is so hard to decide what to keep and what to give away.

Robin (robinmy) I hate packing up a house, so I feel for you. It's hard. But congratulations on the new house. At least you can look forward to moving into it in a few months.

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 103 comments Just seeing this post - so glad you have found a new place! I'm sure you can't wait until the whole process is over with. One of my good friends has decided in the last two weeks that she is moving from Philadelphia, PA to San Francisco, CA by the end of April. Needless to say, she's now in the massive purging stage of her move, lol!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments **waves** Hi, Rebecca! Yes, it is crazy-insane here. I just can't get over the amount of crap that I've accumulated. I mean, I've known I was a pack-rat, but this is nuts.

"Stagers" came yesterday and photographer came this morning. I don't think there is a speck of dirt or a thing out of place; we'll see how long that lasts. LOL! Of course, I'm beyond exhausted, yet can't sleep and was up at 4:30 a.m. trying to make it even more perfect. Bah! First Open House is this week-end.

Oleander | 188 comments I feel for you LK. What an upheaval, but good results will come in the end. Think how relaxing it will be to read in a brand spanking new home when all this is done. I hope your previous home sells quickly. In the meantime, get some rest and Congratulations on the new place!!

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 458 comments I didn't see this thread earlier. I'm kind of messy so open houses are so stressful. (must. put. things. away.) :) Good luck with everything!

Amanda (amandasorrasson) | 12 comments Good Luck with everything Lisa Kay.

I actually like moving house, I enjoy the packing & unpacking because I can pick new places to put everything. Can't say I'm real keen on the cleaning & heavy lifting though.

Hope all goes well with the sale of the old house & the build with the new one.

PS I don't know how you managed to put any books in the give-away pile, you must have more willpower than I do :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Thanks, Oleander, KarenF, Amanda, and ShoSho! Yes, very hard to give away books... but, at last count, I think I'm taking 40 boxes of books with me. Forty! There is not way I have room for them all. I'll have books in every nook and cranny. LOL!

I picked out my colors with the designer yesterday... so guess what I dreamed about last night?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I am the slowest packer on God's green earth.

Seriously.

I'm going to have to hire professions for the last big push.

However, I did get rid of the household hazardous waste today, which was a big relief, as I thought I was going to have to pay for someone to take it. Luckily, the city took it at one of their centers, by appointment and with proof of residency.

I also donated two trunk loads of stuff to Hopeless PackRats Hope Services, which I think is the last batch. But, maybe not.

All of this felt REALLY good to get rid of.
