Darn! That must be one of the few Discworld books I haven't got. I'll have to try and borrow it from my daughter. Come to think of it, I suspect that's my copy she's got anyway.
'A light frost began to crisp the cobblestones.' I love this description because it is brief but effective. It taps into the tone of the scene, without allowing for a lull in the pace. A single line that brings out a bud, rather than a paragraph that picks apart a bouquet of flowers.
When my daughter went off to Uni half my bookshelf, and most of my Pratchetts, went with her. Luckily she had Mort, though by now neither of us remembers which book was whose originally.
