I'm getting a little tired of the love em and leave em hero type. I liked the story and the romance. It could have had more suspense.
I'm getting tired of the, "he lives somewhere else and we could never possibly overcome that" story line. In Ellie's case this was especially annoying since she was so obviously between things with no where to go. I mean seriously, when is location really that big of an obstacle for 2 people who are in love. It may only bug me because I've read so many of these books right in a row. I don't usually do that.
Reading these books one a month definitely shows up the tropes used. It isn't as obvious if there is more distance between reading them.
I've started reading the next book and the good news is that it appears location won't be a plot point. The bad news is that the heroine's family is as dysfunctional as could be and it looks like we might need to deal with another unreasonable sister. Just once, I wish the hero's family would be the dysfunctional one.I'm thinking if I read October's book now and then wait until the end of November to read the next one, maybe it will be enough distance to help me enjoy the old tropes once again.
I agree with all of you. The repetition of trope is getting to be too much. Normally I love the discussion questions, but i feel like I'm repeating myself with this series. There are so many similarities in the last few books that I forget the main characters. I agree that there needs to be more time between reads for these to work.
There is certainly a lot of repetition in this series. We probably wouldn't notice it at all if we read each book as it came out. It looks like they were close to a year apart. If I treated this book as a standalone, I'd say it was had a great hero and heroine with a good story. I'd like a little more suspense in my romantic suspense stories, but this one was decent.
I do think it's the one a month that makes these books feel so similar although they really do all have close to the same formula. We could go to one every other month but I honestly don't think that would be enough time to change the feeling of repetitiveness. As Robin says, if we were caught up in the series & reading upon release, it would be a totally different thing. Unfortunately, with the passing of Garwood, they'll be no more releases.
