We could after all have a Group Read in November if members wanted one, and one of the short story collections has been suggested.

There are two options - the Regency collection Pistols for Two* or the contemporary collection Acting on Impulse. It didn't seem worth doing a poll for just two, so if you would be up for either of those, could you let us know which in the comments below?

*If we go for Pistols for Two we might as well include the extra stories included in Snowdrift, which are available online, so anyone who has either book can take part.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi Jenny my vote is for Acting on Impulse.

I am for "Acting on Impulse" too.

Would you be interested in doing the other one, though?

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4147 comments If others want to, I’d read and discuss Pistols for Two (Regency Romances, 20) by Georgette Heyer . But if more want “Impulse”, I’ll lurk and enjoy the discussion!

Susan
Amazon's Kindle catalogue has this--but it is $8.99, and, alas, it is not on sale right now. It must have been on sale when I bought my copy for our discussion back in 2019.

Barb in Maryland | 817 comments I'm another one for Acting on Impulse: Contemporary Short Stories I can't remember much about the stories, so a re-read and discussion would be fun.

QNPoohBear | 1640 comments I vote for Pistols because I can get it at the library, own Snowdrift and don't have any interest in her contemporary stories.

Thanks Barb, I saw that, but I generally wait for sales! If they were contemporary mysteries starring Hannasyde & company, I’d be interested, but otherwise, meh…

Anne | 113 comments I’m with Barb, I don’t want to buy the book. I already have Pistols for Two.

sabagrey | 387 comments I second Pistols for Two

I'm not crazy about short stories in general, but here's a chance to read some GH Regency stuff *for the first time*, and that hasn't happened to me for a very long time.

... and I don't care much about her contemporary stories.

message 13: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1741 comments I've read the contemporary stores once and that's enough, so I will vote for Pistols for Two. But I'll read the posts no matter which is read.

message 14: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2193 comments Pistols for Two and I own Snowdrift and I'm with the others on the contemporary stories but to be honest I'll read what ever is picked!

/Pistols for two. I’ve read most of her contemporaries and didn’t like them. Not really wanting to pay £7.99 to buy a book I won’t like.

It looks as though Pistols for 2 / Snowdrift is forging ahead after early gains for Acting on Impulse, but let's give it a full week, until Sunday, to be sure.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Pistols is the stronger collection, but some of the Acting stories are quite good. Most readers don't likr Rachel's comments though.

Rachel Hyland, co-author along with Jennifer Koestler, who compiled the anthology and annotated it

Pistols for Two / Snowdrift it is then, by 3 votes to 6 (+ one ambiguous).

This is for November, remember, so we'll resume then.

Can anyone who's read Pistols for Two and Snowdrift tell me whether the stories are in the same order? Are the extras in Snowdrift together, at the beginning or end? Or are they scattered among the others?

message 22: by Barb in Maryland (new)

Barb in Maryland | 817 comments Jenny
The extra stories are at the end of Snowdrift and Other Stories/. There are three of them.
As for story order: The last two stories in Pistols For Two are the first two stories in Snowdrift, with the other stories then falling in the same order.

Great, see you in November, thanks!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Teresa wrote: "So we're not reading anything in October still?"

No. This decision was made when Critterbee was still the other Moderator & neither of us were available in October. Should be a thread somewhere about it. (I'm on my phone, sorry)

Teresa | 2193 comments No prob Carol! Was just wondering if it had changed since Jenny took over.
