How many POVs can you handle?
Sometimes it’s interesting and sort of needed and still manageable to have two POVs like for example both in a dating situation. But it’s a no from me if the differences between the both POVs is not big enough, then it just messes with my brain and I have to go back and check whos POV it is that I’m reading😄
Maybe like 3-4 but I really prefer 2, or like a third person, omnipresent situation following several characters, like how Throne of Glass was written...┐( ∵ )┌
I prefer one, or two dueling contrary POVs but i don’t mind a medley. After a few though it gets hard to grasp onto their different voices and perspectives
If you have a lot, it definitely makes it difficult to follow. I have found that it's best to stick to two or three, at most. :-)
Honestly if the POV’s are executed well I don’t mind reading 8 or 10 😭 So long as each character has a developed arch and a purpose bring it on!
so agree w that !!! i think it depends too one the genreromance ofc two , but thrillers or anything like that idm
i love 6-7 tbh
Six or Seven at most, after that it gets messy. It depends on the author though. Yet if you are going to write from a different POV then please don't make it a first-person POV
depends how interesting and good each story/character is and how often they switch, i'd say 2-3, everything over that my brain might start skipping characters i'm not too interested in. Honestly i don't know many books with multiple povs to really know, so please enlighten me if you know some good books :)
i looove when there are multiple pov's. Sometimes, the more the betterI would probably have to say 6 or 7 would be the most, but then again ive never had more than that...
2-3 is best, but 4 is doable as long as they all have interesting story lines. The main story also has to progress. I've read some that feel like the story stops because they changed pov of too many characters or we go through the exact same conversation just from the other pov.
i can read like a lot but they have to be very different but it makes it better to only have like 1 or 2
i love when there's multiple POVs i kinda feel that a one POV book is missing the thoughts of the other characters but also it only works if they label each one. i remember reading a book and each chapter was a different POV but i kept forgetting and got really confused
Well, I read all of Game of Thrones XD Tbh it can get confusing of even boring if the characters relay the same events without adding something new to the narrative, but as long as the story is still gripping and every character has their original arc I can follow.
the book in a series I'm halfway thru has had around 8 POVs (give or take). if it started in book 1 I would be lost, but it's been gradually. Zodiac Academy I think started with 4, but progressed to a lot more by book 8.
Oh man, I really prefer 2 POV or if it's valid to the plot and characters, 3. However, I have read books with more than that, but unless the plot, characters etc is worthwhile, I don't think it's a great idea. Like Fabitha, I've read all of Game of Thrones, and I really enjoyed that series (better than the tv show, don't come for me). I think the difference in GOT is that the multiple POVs made sense. We're talking about a major fantasy landscape with characters scattered around two continents, plus islands, all players in the ultimate Game, so to me it wasn't as jarring. And I agree with Rebecca though that when you have multiple POVs it can stop the pace of the story, especially if it's just the flip side of a conversation or event.
I usually have 1-3 per book, but I have read 9 throughout a series. Like for example, I usually have books like the Legend series, with 2 povs per book, but there are also books like the Heroes of Olympus series that change the characters narrating per book, with 9 characters that narrate throughout the series, with 5 ish per book, but this can get frustrating sometimes when one character can be in a tight situation, and the pov switches, and you have to read the other person before going back to what you wanted to read.
No more than 4 or it gets REALLY confusing.
i have never read a book more than 3 povs......i am currently reading elantris where theres 3 povs ...i also read the grandest games which has 3 povs....never read a book more than 4 povs so ig my max limit is 3
No limit as long as each character's voice is distinct and I can separate each. I should be able to know which pov I'm in without looking at the chapter title.
not me trying to figure out who everyone was talking to named max-i can normally read up to 5-6 but if im having a day where the brain aint braining, i have to switch to a single double pov.
I can handle multiple POVs if it doesn't interfere with the story itself. For instance, some books in verse or about events from the Pov of a whole class of students that are various lengths add to the story. Most of the time, though, I prefer less than 8, at least on one book.
I feel like the multiple povs are nice but can become too much once it becomes more than 5 because then you are starting to struggle to keep up with characters
Not sure if I have a preference at this point in time. I think it really has to do with the author, how they utilize their characters, and how good they are at it.So long as it's well-written, I'll take as many different character's viewpoints as the author deems fit to share. Doesn't matter if it's 1st-person or 3rd-person.
If it's badly written and isn't obvious that we've shifted characters, I tend to get confused by multiple 1st-person povs, and would prefer to just focus on one character.
Ooo, this is such a great question.I truly think it depends on how well a book is written.
If a book explains everything and keeps all point of view clear and not confusing, it doesn't matter how many there is.
But if a book isn't written brilliantly, I'd say like 2.
