The book you like most discussion
Books that make you really LOL!
For my money, Carl Hiaasen is always worth it. The characters and situations he comes up with are just so out there that you go past total disbelief to wondering if they might be inspired by real people and events. Given that he was a reporter for years, and lives in Florida, you know he’s seen some things. If I had to pick one to start with, I’d say Double Whammy and Native Tongue. They introduce Skink, one of his best recurring characters.
a forgotten mystery by Jude Deverauxthe cover got me really excited but the story had nothing to do with it
and that's why we souldn't judge the book by its cover
it's helpless though ahaha
I like Craig Johnson’s Longmire series https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and although the last few aren’t very funny, the early books had a lot of places that made me laugh out loud. I must admit that I really enjoy the books that have at least a few places that make me laugh more than books that are entirely serious. Even if there are only occasional laughs, I will usually mention humor in my reviews.
I concur on the Carl Hiassen rec above, though one of my favorites is Stormy Weather, which also features Skink in one of his early and more outrageous endeavors.
Adding to that, the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books are LOL funny and perfectly light when you need to meet those criteria. I would recommend beginning with the first in the series and going from there. Disregard the movie starring Katherine Heigl, as it was a complete abomination of the series starter! For one, Heigl is nothing like Stephanie Plum, and Evanovich did not maintain control of the screenplay.

The Stephanie Plum series on audiobook is hilarious. Lorelei King is a fantastic narrator ( only downside is that she also narrates for Patricia Briggs and there is a crossover of voices in the Mercy Thompson series)The Andy Carpenter by David Rosenfeltseries is fun
The grave series by Darynda Jones and the neurotic Hitwoman by J D Lynn are also
worth looking into.
If cryptids are your thing the freaky Florida series by Margaret Lashley should be on your list
All Rick Riordan’s books. Especially Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard
dungeon crawler carl by Matt dinniman I laughed all the way through. Also Robert hoon books by j.d Kirk very funny has specialty his sister in the third book.
Ooooh! Yes! My favourite kind of books: Okay! *Unrolls scroll* in no particular orderA Spell for Chameleon - Entire world centered around puns - Fantasy Adventure, long series (ongoing - over 40books) - Great if you want epic adventure and an arsenal of dad-joke puns
The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - #1, Marvin. . . #2, just the narration style, #3 Marvin! (close 4th is Ford, but just Marvin)
Kill the Farm Boy - The entire Pell series is just laugh out loud - Mocks most fantasy tropes (directly mocks several series *cough Harry Potter cough*) LGBT (binge read series 2x now)
All Systems Red - Hilarious narration, amazing worldbuilding, just spectacular for perfectly timed laughs
Fifty Shames of Earl Grey - Just yes!
The Thursday Next series - and Nursery Crimes Division series by Jasper Fforde - Both hilarious literary fiction comedy series.
Also jumping on the Terry Pratchett love - haven't read a book of his I didn't love.
John Swartzwelder, former writer on The Simpsons, has been self publishing books for a while now. I highly recommend The Exploding Detective. The Stench of Honolulu: A Tropical Adventure by Jack Handey, for those of you who remember and enjoyed "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey" from Saturday Night Live's better days.
And there's Side Effects by Woody Allen, a hilarious collection of short stories and essays.
I have a few... Enjoy! ;) Anything by Kristen Bailey - real-life funny!!!
The Southern Hearts Club Series by Melanie Munton - sexy hot funny!!!
The Benson Security Series by Janet Elizabeth Henderson - suspenseful, sexy, and funny!!!
The Sweetwater Circle Series by Grayson Avery - funny romance from a man's perspective!!!
Anything by Rich Amooi- again funny romance from a man's perspective!!!
and my newest discovery is The Anyone But You Series by Sara L. Hudson - hairless cats named Mike Hunt funny!!!
Anything from Terry Pratchett always makes me laugh. I also love hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, don Quixote, twelfth night, pride and prejudice, and Northanger Abbey are some of the ones off the top of my head.
My LOL books: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas AdamsXanth novels by Piers Anthony
Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison
Myth adventure series by Robert Aspirin
There are funny moments in Murderbot series by Martha Wells
And Tales From the Gas Station series by Jack Townsend
The JOE GREY https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8... series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy which is about a cat that talks and his friends who solve murders. They were light and lots of fun and I enjoyed every weird minute of them all.
The only books that have ever made me laugh out loud are books that are so bad that they're funny.Twilight is the one that makes me laugh the most.
Carrier of the Mark is another one that makes me laugh (it's basically a Twilight rip off but with elemental magic instead of vampires).
Anything by Jenny Lawson sends my sister into absolute hysterics, particularly Furiously Happy. And yes absolutely Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy makes me die of laughter every time!
This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay made me laugh so much! All about a junior doctor working in Obs & Gynae for the NHS.
The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant by Drew Hayes. I admit, I bought this first book in the series because the title grabbed me. Following Fred through his afterlife is a laugh-a-minute as he meets characters of the parahuman world that include dragons and Bubba, the wearhorse. (What? You thought they were all wolves?)BTW, another book I bought because of the title was Bimbos of the Death Sun by Sharyn McCrumb. Not as sexist as the title might suggest, but instead pokes fun at SF stereotypes.
Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own AutobiographyThis is sooooo funny. I am not a big biography person, or non fiction in general, but this is presented in such a fun way.
Also, the Audio book may be funnier since NPH voices the narration and has to get creative due to the structure of the book.
Ian wrote: "For my money, Carl Hiaasen is always worth it. The characters and situations he comes up with are just so out there that you go past total disbelief to wondering if they might be inspired by real p..."I LOVE Carl Hiaasen.
Self-Inflicted Wounds: Heartwarming Tales of Epic Humiliation by Aisha Tyler had me laughing out loud a lot. So did The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life by Laurie Notaro.Anything by Jenny Larson has me in tears.
Those are all memoirs. For fiction, I love:
Carl Hiaasen, Dave Barry, T. E. Kinsey, and India Holton.
Brown Dog by Jim Harrison. I think it's really rare to read something so funny that you'll laugh out loud, but Harrison's Brown Dog is such a unique character that I probably did so about a dozen times.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian, any of the Finlay Donovan books by Elle Cosimano, Grave Reservations by Cherie Priest.
I love all of the Stephanie Plum books too, but the funniest book I've ever read is Heidi's Guide to Four Letter Words by Tara Sivec. Also, right now I'm reading and enjoying the the Bobbie Faye series by Toni McGee Causey.
Believe it or not, Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman is another one that had me in stitches. It follows Norse mythology closely, but until I read Gaiman's take on it, I never realized how funny it really was. Yes, there's a tragedy, but imagine Thor trying to pass himself off as Freya, all the while whining, "This will never work." --Or Loki buzzing around as an annoying mosquito.
I'll add a short one: Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville. After being hired, Bartleby won't leave. He's kind of like What About Bob? (the movie), but much earlier.
Me,Earl and the Dying girl is very funny, but is also interspersed with some real life hard hitting moments
