Jeff I just recently finished a book by Johann Hari called Lost Connections: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression - and the Unexpected Solutions about the causes of depression and ways to deal with depression. The author is very candid about his experience with antidepressants and their overall ineffectiveness for most people. He goes to say that many times depression is more of a product of the way we live and a disconnection in our society from others, our values, meaningful work and nature. I really enjoyed the book.
He has a couple of other books that I have not read yet called "Stolen Focus" and also "Chasing the Scream" about addiction.

Bogdan Strugari | 3 comments We should think is even more than that. Depression is a disconnected state not only to others, but to oneself, to his inner being, his soul. Nature also plays a huge role in recovery of oneself from depression, but it seems that depressed people become highly insensitive to theirselves, others and nature also. So in order for one to reach out of this depressed state, a kind of Awakening has to occur, when the mind recognizes the patterns of thought as being harmfull, and will start to protect itself from these patterns. Step by step, healing starts acting to the depressed state, and a new life is possible.
