I started reading The Goldfinch three weeks ago, and ive only gotten into the first 115 pages. Im trying to understand this book the best i can, but i just dont. What is going on? Am i just too dumb to read one of Tartt's greatest books? I really want to read The Goldfinch and understand whats happening. So far, all ive understood is the muesuem building collapsing, and Theo trying his best to find his mom. What am I missing?

It's definitely not the fastest-moving novel. I didn't enjoy it as much as either "Secret History" or "Little Friend," though I felt the opening chapters were in fact the strongest, with depictions of the city at least on par with Theo's family situation. Therefore I wonder if you'll at all enjoy the rest of the book. As you get to know the characters better, pieces inevitably fall into place, but expect vagueness to be important for the tone (which I didn't found fully justifiable), and action will always take second place to Theo's reflections.
