Steph (angel4492) | 32776 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!
a
Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Gimme Avenue A 'Cause they slay.

Sixteen year old Jenna is thrilled to see Avenue A in person when a local New York club opens for an one night only underage event. She is so excited to actually catch the eye of her idol Jake. Jenna is hoping to meet Jake and pass him the demo tape she has in her purse. A sudden jab to her arm sends her stumbling outside where Jake is taking a breather between sets. Jenna collapses and Jake tries in vain to save her life. Nadine tags Eve and so begins a twisted game.

I started this series very late. I had been hesitant to begin because of the number of books that were already written. It took me several years but I was able to catch up and now I pre-order all of the books. I had held this book since its release hoping to use it for a challenge and here it is.

The writing is still fresh and captivating even fifty eight books in. I love the interaction between Eve and Roarke. Their relationship makes me swoon. Eve and her team are the best investigators in fiction. I get engrossed in the methods and clues that lead them to the killer.

This was a hard one for everyone since it involved teens. The randomness of the murders was frustrating for all. There was a huge list of people and places to eliminate with so little time. I loved seeing the whole department pull together to narrow down the suspects and finally get the culprit.

There was not as much talk about the house renovations this time. I missed that a bit. The conversation between Eve and Peabody about cocottes was too funny. Eve sees things in black and white and just doesn't get anything on the fringe.

I truly cannot say enough good things about this series. It is my all time favorite and I am so glad I took the plunge to start it. I can't wait for the next book.

I highly recommend this series.

Not to brag, but I'm a bit of an expert on glass.

August Shade is a post-relationship personal effects repossession specialist. He will recover items from your ex for a fee. August is also a shapeshifter that has the ability to change into a variety of creatures.

First of all, I love quirky characters. I really love snark and The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Five Parts (which this book was compared to numerous times) is one of my all time favorite series. So what happened? I just don't know.

The premise is good. I really looked forward to seeing August's escapades. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. I never connected with August. I didn't find him likeable or funny. I put this book down several times over several days to see if perhaps I was just not in the mood to read it. I finally forced myself to finish it and kept asking myself what the heck I had just read. At least it was a quick short read.

Review:

As much as I enjoyed the first book in this series (Chaotic), I'm not sure about this one :(

I mean, Charisma's inner dialogues are funny and carry much of the book, but I felt they were a bit much in this installment. That could, of course, just be me, but still, as it is such a big part of the story, it's important.

Another thing that I'm not fully feeling is the relationship she has with, well, everyone. I love that this isn't a case of instant lust/love and get-together; no, they have to work for it. They're also pretty clueless about what they actually want (and at the moment, sharing Char isn't one of those things)

I just finished the book, and to be very honest, the only thing I can say is that it is pretty much all over the place. In that regard, it truly lives up to its name.
At the moment, I'm not sure if I will continue the series.

Review:

OMG! This book was epic! Seriously, let's just get that out there first.

I totally devoured it, living every twist and turn with Callie and Tarian. The whole idea behind the story was fantastic, and the characters? Amazing! I seriously need the next book ASAP.

Now, the only reason I rated it as 4.5* and not a perfect 5-star knockout is because, in my honest opinion, it could have been 150-200 pages shorter. There was a bit of a drag between the 30% and 60% mark (and I understand that it might have been necessary), but after that, it was pure magic, and I couldn't put it down!

But seriously, the characters were so well-developed, the plot had twists and turns as you haven't seen before (I got dizzy and just gave up on figuring it out and went with the flow), and the ending? A beautiful happily ever after that left me grinning. This book was freaking excellent.

Highly recommend! Don't miss out!

Review:

Lucy Soriano awoke to the realization that the nightmare about needles being driven into her scalp was not a dream, but in fact the very real and very sharp claws of a hungry kitten.

Lucy moves to New Orleans in search of the father she never knew. Having left law school, she is working for Bellona Knight at Knights in Wild Satin. A date gone wrong shows that Lucy's blood is deadly to vampires. This leads Lona and her boyfriend Miles to take Lucy to EJC Headquarters. EJC is a research lab and houses vampire hunters for the city.

I was a bit hesitant to start this book because of the overdone trope of New Orleans and vampires. I was pleasantly surprised with it. We learn that Lucy is half vampire and her blood easily kills vamps. There is a secret organization of very old vampires know as the Eyes of the Sun. They are based out of Paris but have factions in New Orleans as well. They become aware of Lucy and want her as a lab rat.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their interaction with each other. My favorite hunter team is Lance and Hugh. Such major differences (Lance is gay, anti-military and non-religious. Hugh is a former marine, a staunch Southern Baptist, and anti-gay) yet they work perfectly together.

Of course, there has to be a love interest. Andre is the nephew of director of EJC and very much against Lucy being trained as a hunter. Those feelings change once he sees her in action.

Any book with a cat always makes me happy. Gumbo is realistically portrayed and I wanted to scoop her up for cuddles.

The story line is very good, the action is done quite well, and the characters add to the plot.

I enjoyed this enough to look for the next book in the series.

Review:

This book had been on my TBR pile for ages, so I was excited to finally dive in! I'm giving it a 3.5*

Overall, it was a fun and fast-paced read. I got to know Mikka pretty well – she's fiercely loyal and protective of her brother, which lands them in very hot water this time around.
The world felt a little superficial – we didn't get many details about the vampires or the setting. It wasn't a huge deal while reading, but a bit more backstory would have been nice.
The side characters, including Mikka's potential love interests (Rome, Connor, and Bastian), were interesting but could have used some more development. Here's hoping we learn a lot more about them in the next book!
The plot kept me engaged, and the pacing was good. While it wasn't a mind-blowing read, it was entertaining and left me curious about what happens next.
Will I be rushing out to grab the sequel? Maybe not immediately, but I'm definitely interested in continuing the series eventually!

This was a new author to me, and I loved her writing style and this new world that she has created.
In her shifter world a shifter is paired with an exceptional human known as a prodigy and acts as their guardian. Halle has lived her life in the shadow of her prodigy sister Mona believing that she is no one special. Tragedy strikes and she is then thrown a curveball as she becomes the "savior" for the whole race of humans and shifters. I was drawn in by the story, the characters and world building. It does end on a crazy cliffhanger, and I can't wait to dive into the next book. A good read.

I've only recently come across this author, and I love her books. This book had a pretty calm first chapter before shit hit the fan, lol, and I'm happy to say the pacing was spot on till the cliffhanger (yeah, it's a fun one).

Lenni and Rogan are both strong-willed characters. Lenni struggles a bit with insecurities about her magic, and Rogan has some secrets that are sure to be a big deal. He might be attractive, but his actions early on were definitely questionable (I see a lot of groveling in his future). Lenni's inner voice is entertaining, with funny and relatable moments (and me sitting there either laughing or facepalming).

The story itself is interesting. It has some good twists that keep you guessing, and you learn about the world and characters as you go along. There's no information overload at the start, which is nice.

I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series. It might take me a bit to get to it, but the story is engaging, and I'm curious to see where it goes.

I hope you enjoy it!"

I really enjoy it, too. I’ve listened to the last couple of books. The narrator is very good.

HOW IT FITS: OPTION 2- BEST OF UF SERIES

READ: Sweep of the Heart BY Ilona Andrews, 052124
4STARS

REVIEW:
Book 5 in the Innkeeper Chronicles and I'm still enjoying this series. Ilona Andrews has a way of writing that just sucks you right in. In the book we find that Dina and Sean have been tasked with hosting a televised spousal competition for the Sovereign of the Seventh Star Dominion in order to receive needed assistance in rescuing Sean's mentor Wilmos. We are introduced to a lot of new characters, but our favorite inn guests are still spotlighted also. The competition and competitors are entertaining, we learn more about Caldenia's past and a little about what may have happened to Dina's parents. There is not a lot of focus on Dina and Sean's romance, but we get so much good drama and action. The ending has me already wanting the next book in the series. Great read.

SHELF 2- VAMPIRES

READ: Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft BY Mandy M. Roth, 052624
3 STARS

REVIEW: This was an ok read for me. It's a second chance, fated mates, there are actual super naturals trope. We meet Poppy who is 40 years old, newly divorced and moving back to her hometown with her two best friends in tow. She reconnects with her childhood love; discovers she has powers and fights an evil witch all in such a short time span. The book was fast paced and felt rushed. I would have liked for the characters to be flushed out a little more and more build up to the reconnection. I liked the characters and town enough that I may give the second book in the series a chance.

Review:

The point of a muting spell is to actually mute your output, not amplify it."

Book six of the Lizzie Grace series opens with something killing newlyweds and with Lizzie's past catching up with her as her father and the man she was forced to marry arrive on the reservation.

This is a strong addition to the series. The evil gets better with each book. The rather ghastly ghoulish creature in this plot is fascinating and disgusting. The storyline with Lizzie's father and husband was well done and made me really understand the reason why Lizzie and Belle fled. The fact that Lizzie was forced to marry Clayton when she was only 16 makes my skin crawl. Her father is probably one of the worst parents I ever seen written.

There are times that I think Aiden will get past the whole "can't marry anyone but a werewolf" thing and then he opens his mouth. I do like him and respect that he has been honest but he needs to just man up. The fact that he doesn't reassure Lizzie when she has concerns about his ex coming back and him leaving her kinda ticked me off.

The strong bond between Lizzie and Belle often carries the book for me. Add in Monty, Ashworth, and Eli to round out the witchy group. It was interesting to see how entwined Lizzie is with the wild magic and Katie now. I appreciated how much Maelle stepped to help Lizzie. Granted, she does owe her a favor but she went a bit beyond that.

The resolution with Clayton was satisfying and I'm happy that Lizzie and Belle do not have to constantly be looking over their shoulders. I interested to see how things will progress now that Aiden has asked Lizzie to move in with him. I'm also rooting for Monty to finally break down Belle's walls.

I have listened to the last couple of books and the narrator does an excellent job. I look forward to seeing where the next book takes us.
