I thought it was okay she didn't disclose her prior relationship with Nick, after all it was just one night eight years ago. She wanted this case and wasn't going to let anything get in the way.
I wasn’t concerned at this stage. Yeah, it was one night six years ago and Sam didn’t seem compromised.
I actually had more of a problem with this nondisclosure than the first time I read the book. It was a conflict of interest, and she should have revealed it. It was unprofessional. The fact that the brass gloss over it is unrealistic and definitely has a degree of nepotism. If she weren't Skip Holland's daughter, she might have been fired for lying to her superior officers.
It wasn’t here that I had an issue. It was later when they realized Peter had interfered and they reconnected, at least emotionally.
If Sam had revealed she was intimate with Nick one night eight years ago I think the brass would have given her a pass, and I think it would have been in part due to her being Skip's daughter and also because they wanted her to have this case.

I think Sam should have told the bosses that she knew Nick from an encounter years ago, but it would not interfere with the investigation. They really wanted her to work this case. I don't think they would have pulled her from it.
