question
A bit frustrated with the ending.

So near the end of the book John is about to kill Setrakus Ra when Five knocks him away, because he would have killed Ella. Later in the book, John telekinetically freezes the bullets from a group of police officers before they kill Ra, killing Ella as well. But why? Why couldn't Ella just be a sacrifice to end the war. Now Ra is free, and the Mogs are invading New York City and probably other major cities as well, killing civilians. It's not like they would have let Hitler go free in WWII because of some soldier who would have died with him. Why does all of humanity have to suffer so that one girl can live? This kind of irritated me, and dropped my rating from a 5 to a 4. Can someone help me understand why they did what they did?

I totally agree. I mean yes it's kind of sad that Ella would have to die, but the sacrifice of one person to save the whole universe is kind of logical.
Ella understood what had to happen, but nooooo, the Garde decide to keep the war going when they could of ended it for the best of everyone.
I just hope these idiots know what they've gotten themselves into.
There's probably going to be massive battle at the end, where one of them ends up dying anyway.
Either way, I'm still pumped about the last book coming out

I disagree. It's like how the Marines say "No man left behind". They will go into dangerous places to rescue the one man even though they know they may lose more men in the process. Soldiers dieing because of the enemy is different than soldiers dieing because of their fellow soldiers. A team willing to die to protect each other is a team of true heros.
And how would they be different from the Mogs when they decide who should be sacraficed for the greater good? The Mogs beleive the Earth should be sacrificed for their greater good!
By trying to save her they say All of life is important. Important enough to go to war over.

I disagree too. Its bad enough that 8 is gone and now you want to kill/sacrifice Ella too?! That's crazy! I am sure there is some way out! But the actual ending, the one that we really should be talking about is when Sam stops that thing with telekinesis!!! OMG!!! WHAT WAS THAT?!!!!!
dont u understand? u CAN'T kill setrakus ra, if u try to hurt him, ella will be hurt instead! like when five tries to stab him in the shoulder, he doesn't feel a thing, right?
at least, thats what i remember

I'm doubtful if even sacrificing Ella would kill Setrakus Ra. It's like only Ella gets hurt if anyone tries to harm Ra. He doesn't feel a thing.
What I don't understand is why they didn't try attacking Ella. I mean, if Ella gets hurt if Setrakus Ra is hit, wouldn't he get hurt if she is hit? At least, that's how I thought it works.
