grllopez ~ with freedom and books (with_freedom_and_books) | 140 comments Just for the record: these were the poems I read from the suggestions and respective notes or opinions for each.

A Better Resurrection : poet is feeling despondent and needs reassurance from Jesus who will lift her up and help her faith.

A Birthday : poet’s love has come to her. It’s a happy day.

After Death : I’m sorry, but I don’t find peace in this poem. It is sad. The poet is dead and someone - a man she loved who never loved her while she lived -- comes to see her shroud, though he does not touch her or look upon her face and turns away in pity. She thinks he cries for her, but nah. and she is cold but he is still warm. I feel pity for her too.

The Convent Threshold: poet committed adultery, repented, and begged lover to repent as well.

De Profundis: Heaven is too far away. The poet tries in vain to reach it.

Dream Land: the poet is either entering a dream or death and wants to be left alone to be in peace. Some christian undertones.

Good Friday: the poet takes full responsibility for her own emotions concerning Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. She is not like the others, she is not a stone. She struggles to feel more than a stone.

Monna Innominata: I wish I could remember what this was about (but I forgot). Oh, I remember! pretty sure this is about death and the poet does not want the reader to remember her and be sad.

Sister Maude: obviously maude pissed off the poet and she wishes her death for telling everyone about someone the poet did not want her to expose or of her own shame. Not certain.

The Three Enemies: FLESH, WORLD, SATAN

Up-Hill: about a journey, up hill , weary, looking for a resting place and asking if there is room.

When I am dead, my dearest is about death, as usual. The poet asks a loved one not to be sad about her death when she dies. It’s ok if you remember or forget not to bring flowers or plant anything in her honor. She doesn’t think she’ll remember anything when she is dead either.

These I did not read:

Christmas Carol
Maude Clare
Goblin Market
The Prince's Progress
