Thank you for keeping this group going! I really enjoy being part of it!I have a few suggestions (some old some maybe new)
Since I live in Sweden I suggest Nobel prize winners.
Reread books
Poetry
By the sea or on the sea
Nordic crime
Haunted or mysterious houses
Fictional books with similar theme (for example bookshops, gardens, knitting, school, or maybe siblings.
Books set on an island
Winter, snow, ice
Books where books is a main theme (or library or bookshop)
Books from french speaking countries
Number in the title
Sci-fi
I personally don't like the non-point challenge. I usually start a post and will do good with logging my books but by the second quarter of the year I've forgotten all about it. I personally wouldn't be mad or upset if this challenge was gone. I enjoyed all the challenges we've had this year and wouldn't mind having some or all of them back next year.
But here are some of my ideas:
- Books made into a movie or tv show
- A New York Times bestseller
- A childhood favorite
- A book written by a deceased author
- A book set during war time (ie. WWI, WWII, Vietnam, etc.)
- A book with a one word title
- A sequel book (book 2 in a series)
- A book with 2 or more authors
- The first 5 books on your TBR list
Some good ideas so far. I especially like the Nordic crimes and sequel book. There are many series I've only read the first book .My suggestions:
Sci-fi
Classics
Non-fiction - (Not because I like non-fiction but because I'm trying to read biographies of all the presidents and it helps to have a little encouragement.)
Books with long titles (five or more words)
Authors with three names (e.g. Arthur Conan Doyle)
Retellings
Bookworm recommendations - We could each suggest a few of our favorites to form a list of books to choose from. This could be a yearly or monthly or Bingo square or non-pointer challenge. It would be an interesting list.
I like a lot of these ideas. I do like how our yearly challenges are often fairly broad, so there is a lot of choice in the 5 books. And if we continue bingo, we can get more specific books.
I loved the mini - book chain and the books all published in the same year. That really pushed me to read more new publications so I can vote in the Goodreads Choice awards this year.
I also need a non-fiction prompt to get me reading more non-fiction and at least one finger crusher.
I'm excited to see some of these ideas that would also be great for monthly challenges.
I also think I'm not a fantasy reader, but I always enjoy the books I read for that category.
5 books written in 5 different decades
oh, and series.

Mythical creatures
Mystery/thriller
wildcard
TBR list for over a year (or over 3yrs or 5 or...)
retellings
books you own
Rereads - i like this is a year long challenge
published in the same year
books with a common word in the title
finger crushers = 2 points (another of someone else's ideas in previous years)
books with magic
For the non point challenge someone suggested publication years at some point and I thought that was a good one!
I love all the already mentioned categories ideas!! And I adore this group!!
I never remember how I found it when I first joined GR and wonder about it sometimes. Very lucky!

Probably some of these ideas are going to be repeats but here are some of my favourites:
series
thrillers
GR choice winners or nominated ( gets me reading more recent books)
"new to you" authors
recommended by a friend
TBR list for at least 3 years
single word titles
place names in titles
I like the mini book chains a lot
I like the BINGO cards.
Great idea about using Bookworm recommendations - maybe the bookworm's name could be a square and you read one book off their list. If there aren't enough for the whole Bingo card, it could be filled in with other categories.
Looking forward to voting on the lists. Also happy that you are doing it early. I like having lots of time to sort through my stacks of books!
