So I'm trying to get my book published. And after I sent out a bunch of queries, one agent asked to see my manuscript. I took about a month to finish editing/revising and then I emailed the manuscript to the agent as she had requested. This was about a month ago, and she hasn't responded, so I'm not sure if she even received the manuscript. Is it normal for the agent to not respond at all? Would it be acceptable for me to send an email asking if she received the manuscript?

Brigid, like you I am trying to get published. Of the fifty or more agents that I queried, only about 18 have responded in any way in the last five months. I wouldn't be worried about your agent taking a month to read your manuscript, they all tell us how busy they are. I think it would be fine to email a request for an update since you're really already in the door. Remember that the shortest note written to an agent was from Victor Hugo. He sent a note that said, "?". The reply, "!". Here's hoping for your "!".
Thanks!Well, actually the problem's all solved. I emailed her again and it turns out she didn't get the manuscript the first time I sent it, so I sent it again and she got it this time. :)
Now just to wait for a response ... *fingers crossed*
I have a question. When they ask to see a manuscript, do you send them the whole book? Or just the first couple of chapters?
I think when they ask for the manuscript, you send them the whole thing. Otherwise they would ask for a few sample chapters. Good luck, Brigid!
