I read this book series in the eighties. A boy ends up staying at a relatives, possibly an aunt. In one room of her house, there is a picture of a 17th of 18th century galleon. One time, while he’s looking at the painting, he gets sucked into it and ends up going on adventures on the ship with the crew. I remember vivid descriptions of food he ate on the boat, which was always a hearty stew of some kind, and encounters with pirates. There were about 4 books in the series at least, possibly more.
