2017 Reading Challenge discussion

This short story collection is about mail-order brides all set up by "The Hitching Post: a mail-order bride catalog." The proprietor is Melvin Hitchcock who is a matchmaker of sorts and edits all their letters which causes all kinds of havoc with the couples (some more than others.) But of course they the all end up happy in the end.

I like to read these stories because I wonder how such a marriage would ever work. But the times were very different around 1870. Most of them happened as they were settling the west after the Civil War. If women wanted a chance to marry they often needed to look outside of their hometown because of the war. I am sure sometimes these marriages didn't work, but for the most part they did. And thus their stories live on...
