Currently, Jeopardy is hosting a series called Jeopardy - Second Chance. The gameshow is inviting back contestants who "almost" won in a previous contest, but didn't.

This gave me the idea of giving books that were nominated in 2023 (but lost), a second chance to be a winner.

You can go to the homepage and find the nominations thread. It is also found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group....

You may select a book that didn't win from the January 2023 to the December 2023 nominations.

You can nominate up to two works. Please state whether or not you can lead the discussion.

Nominations will end the 15th. Please select works that have not been read by this group in the past 3 years. Here is the bookshelf link: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books....

Thanks!

The Awakening by Kate Chopin and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor.

Both books have been banned. I can lead.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 437 comments Since it was nominated more than once in 2023, I’ll nominate South Riding by Winifred Holtby. Unfortunately, I will ge very busy in March and don’t feel I could lead then.

It is time to vote for the March read. The voting will end on January 26, 2024. Your choices are as follows:

1. Behind a Mask: The Unknown Thrillers of Louisa May Alcott
2. The Awakening by Kate Chopin
3. The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall
4. South Riding by Winifred Holtby
5. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor

You can direct message me to vote, or post it in the thread. Only votes from people on the eligible list will be counted, so if I missed your name in a discussion that's taken place the past year, please let me know.

Thanks for being interested in voting for a book. However, we have a rule that you must participate in a book discussion at least once a year in order to have your vote count. If South Riding wins and you participate in the discussion, you will be eligible to vote for a year!

What discussion threads would you like South Riding?

message 27: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 437 comments Why don’t we do the usual opening discussion plus a spoiler thread?

Unfortunately, I noted when I nominated it that March is such a crazy time for me that I can’t lead. Am building a giant database and my head won’t be above the waters till March 18 at the earliest. But I’ll see if I can dig up some links at least to info about the author and book.
