I read Darkling just over a year ago. A story about a teenage girl being given a young racehorse which she has to train and coax into being a winner. It's a good story though a little dated now. And I remember reading Thunder in the Sky a long time ago. It's about a young boy in the First World War determined to prove himself as he grows up. I think it is still deserving of a read.

I love her Pennington books - Pennington’s 17th Summer, The Beethoven Medal, Pennington’s Heir, Marion’s Angels. The Beethoven Medal I am particularly fond of - I was the same age as Ruth is in the book when it was published, and i identified with her strongly. Also Who Sir, Me Sir? and it’s sequel Downhill All The Way, which I think are more purely comic than anything else she wrote.
The Plan for Birdsmarsh is another one I like very much, also The Maplin Bird.

I haven't read any K.M. Peyton books yet, although her Flambards series is definitely on my list. I know other group members must be familiar with her work. What have you read, and do you recommend?
