Hi all, time to select a new book for the new year!

Same rules as usual apply:

1) Don't just list books you plan on reading. Give a sentence or two why you think we should read as a group.

2) If someone suggests something you like, you can "vote" by agreeing with it in the comments. If there a bunch of options, I'll pul the ones that have the most support.

3) If you have suggested things in past polls, even if they did well, suggest them here again. I will not be going to past posts to look for suggestions.

I'll gather options at the end of next week to make a poll.

This may have been suggested before, because I'm almost certain this group is where I heard about it...but the Dead Djinn series by P. Djeli Clark seems like something this group would enjoy. I'm not sure whether to suggest the first "real" book in the series, A Master of Djinn, or the first prequel that came out, A Dead Djinn in Cairo. If anyone who has read any of them has thoughts, feedback would be welcome!

One of the top books I'm recommending from last year is Killers of a Certain Age. Four women assassins who are retiring, plus flashbacks to how they became assassins. Of course they have to deal with one more job.

I'm looking back over my want-to-read shelf, and came across this one that I have had on my TBR for a while and want to bump up: Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal. The book's page describes it as if Jane Austen had written Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and that sounds just about perfect to me. I've read some of her other books and short stories and they're fantastic.
