i'm getting a head start on this and made it to chapter 5.

OMFG i'm loving it, which says a lot bc i find most contemporary romcom books horribly written and cringey. Kate Goldbeck perfectly captures the urban 20-something personality, with modern and still differing views on sexuality + relationships. pretty humorous too.

a note on new yorkers and their rule on making authentic bagels is apparently never toasting them? whereas i only eat bagels if they're toasted lol, Josh might run me out of town.

a lot of fanfic writers rewrite their stories into original ones to be published ie. Ali Hazelwood with the Reylo couple, i'm thinking Goldbeck did the same w/ modeling Josh after Adam Driver, at least physically. while reading, I was picturing Jodie Comer as Ari, she has the same chill, funny girl demeanor.



i assumed from the synopsis they'd be in constant contact over the 10+ yrs of knowing each other, but they only meet sporadically over a few yrs, which is interesting.

also didn't know the black and white cookies were a new york food, although where i live in boston, i haven't seen them around much.

Evidently this is supposed to be a retelling of Harry Met Sally (or Sally Met Harry) but I've never seen the movie so I don't know. I wasn't excited about this one, though.

(view spoiler)[I felt like Ari was coming on to Josh, but I couldn't figure out why she'd do that to her friend. I also thought she was a lesbian, but I guess she's bi? I'm not too terribly familiar with all the different sexual orientations, but I wonder if I missed something or if she has a problem with Natalie for some reason.

Then...she shows up married to Cass? I wasn't expecting that at that point. (hide spoiler)]

OMG! LOL (view spoiler)[ What is going on here? Obviously, I think, they are falling for each other. I almost died laughing during the restaurant scene when Ari came in and told his poor date that not only was he with her but she was his WIFE! lol That scene was hilarious and would be oh so funny in a movie! Josh is really hard to like, lol! he's gruff and so. . .uptight. I like that she's helping him loosen up a bit. I can't believe he fired her friend

and yeah, i think Ari is bi. and I don't think she was really hitting on Josh, she was just flirting (I think ) to rile him up. I think they naturally got on each other's nerves to start but now they're calming down and maybe settling into a friendship (hide spoiler)]
