Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Mercury by Amy Jo Burns. This was highly anticipated for me, as I loved Burns’s first novel Shiner. I rated this one 4.5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Atonement by Ian McEwan. I’m 20+ years late to the party with this one, but I’m glad I finally read it. Rated it 4 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Women by Kristin Hannah. This of course, is the newest release from Hannah, this time set during the Vietnam War era. Hannah once again delivers the goods — a tad long, but well worth the read. I rated it 4.5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments FinishedRiver East, River West by Aube Rey Lescure. This was an interesting reverse immigration story that was really well done (I'm still a bit blown away that this is a debut novel). I rated it 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Storm We Made by Vanessa Chan. This is a stunning debut that left me with a lot to think about after I finished reading. Definitely recommended, though this is also a WWII novel so there will be a lot of heavy, difficult stuff. I rated this 4 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Beautiful, haunting, poignant. I’ve been wanting to read this one for ages and I’m glad I finally got the chance. This was stunning and absolutely deserving of 5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished After Annie by Anna Quindlen. This is an emotional story about grief and loss that is heartbreaking, but also hopeful. I rated it 4.5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 10: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Other Side of Disappearing by Kate Clayborn. This newest romance from Clayborn was a fun and welcome break from the “heavier” stuff that I’ve been reading lately. I rated it 3.5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Real Americans by Rachel Khong. This was an interesting, uniquely-structured story that I really enjoyed. I rated it 4.5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 12: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Only the Beautiful by Susan Meissner. This was poignant and heartbreaking, but also thought-provoking and timely given recent events in the news. Beautifully-written historical fiction that I rated 4.5 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 13: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Twilight Garden by Sara Nisha Adams. This is one of those slow-burn, character-driven stories that takes awhile to warm up to, but I enjoyed it overall. I rated it 4 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 14: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The House on Biscayne Bay by Chanel Cleeton. Cleeton’s latest foray into gothic mystery was entertaining, but I prefer her previous historical novels about the Perez family more. I rated this one 3.5 stars. Here’s my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 15: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Return of Ellie Black by Emiko Jean. I really enjoyed this debut thriller from a talented author who has proven that she can write well across genres. I rated this one 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Shelterwood by Lisa Wingate. This one takes some patience, but it pays off in the end. I rated it 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Jane Dalton (journojane) | 68 comments You don't have to be religious to be amazed by A Prayer for Owen Meany. My review:

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. This was a re-read for me for school. Jane Austen is my favorite author, but this one is admittedly my least favorite of Austen's novels. Nevertheless, I still rated it 4.5 stars because, well, it's Austen! Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Moore's latest novel is one of her most ambitious but also one of her best yet. Loved this one and rated it 5 stars! Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 20: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Briar Club by Kate Quinn. Quinn's newest release is quite different from her previous works, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I rated it 4.5 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer. I loved Shaffer's debut The Wishing Game and ended up loving this one, her second novel, even more! Rated it 5 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Viewfinder: A Memoir of Seeing and Being Seen by Jon M. Chu. This was a fun memoir that had personal resonance for me (due to similar cultural background as well as being a fan of the movie Crazy Rich Asians). I rated 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. Beautifully written and poignant story. Loved this! Rated it 5 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout. This was a delight, as I got to see two of my favorite characters from the Elizabeth Strout universe (Olive Kitteridge and Lucy Barton) finally meet and interact! I enjoyed this and pretty sure Strout fans who have read all her novels will as well. Rated it 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

That's spooky, Bkwmlee - I've just been listening to Elizabeth Strout being interviewed on the radio. She sounds like a lovely person. Very modest. I agree that her writing is superb. I've only ever read Olive Kitteridge, and look forward to reading more.

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty. This was definitely entertaining, though not sure if I understand it completely. I rated it 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 28: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished The Sequel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. This one was clever and entertaining and I did enjoy it, but I definitely felt The Plot was better. I rated this one 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Like Mother, Like Mother by Susan Rieger. This was an "okay" read. I enjoyed parts of it but overall found this to be a tedious read. I rated it 3 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Powerful, poignant, and profound, this is an absolutely must-read for all Americans. I rated this 5 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 33: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina García. This is a classic from 1992 that deals with some hard things, but overall a worthwhile read. I rated it 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Meditations for Mortals: Four Weeks to Embrace Your Limitations and Make Time for What Counts by Oliver Burkeman. In this follow-up to Burkeman's previous book Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, he breaks up some of the concepts from that book into individual "mediations" that can be read all the way through or daily across 4 weeks. I actually ended up enjoying this one more than his previous book. Rated it 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Jane Dalton (journojane) | 68 comments Evie Wyld's The Bass Rock: a hard-hitting expose of how men abuse, threaten and murder women in all ages, circumstances and classes. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 36: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Rental House by Weike Wang. This is the newest book from one of my favorite authors. Her second book Joan is Okay is still my favorite, but this one quite excellent as well. I rated it 4.5 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 37: by Bkwmlee (new)

Bkwmlee | 553 comments Finished Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney. Feeney's newest release is a good one, with lots of twists that kept me turning the pages. Can't wait to see what she will write next. I rated this one 4 stars. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
