As April chose out some bread with the money her parents had given for her she felt a boy bump into her in line, she angrily turned to him

April bought her food and went to get ready reaping. April had been waiting and training for this day her whole day, the stongest child of one of districts 4's wealthiest families April had always known it was her job and dream to volunteer and hopefully win the Hunger Games.

As April waited in the clearing she felt her excitment drain away, and for the first time ever doubts flooded in, who was she to think she could win the hunger games, she was small and a slow runner, there where so many frightening tributes from district 1 and 2, and even the underdog tributes who had faced so much more than she had, and were made strong because of it. And April reilized she was terrified.

April heard the name Serene Poslin be called out, she swallowed her fear she had to do this, or she'd never achieve the glory she wanted. "I volunteer."

April went up to the stage and waited for the boy's name to be called " Marcus Arkanth." It was the boy from earlier,he didn't look like much and she didn't think he'd be a threat.

April went to say goodbye to her parents and sisters
" Make us proud April." Her Dad said. Their goodbyes were quick, April knew her parents only saw her as a way to get honor. Then she and Marcus borded the train

April could feel Marcus judging her so she judged him right back. Who was he, to judge her, April Fox the future victor of the hunger games. April was used to luxury but it didn't compare at all to the capitol, but if she was going to win this thing she didn't have time for comfort and she went off in search of their mentor.

April was waiting for Marcus after meeting her mentor Dyland Sorail,
He sat next to her "Hello", "Hello" she responded back and she noticed Marcus's looks for the first time, his wavy brown hair and green eyes. But she forced herself to focus on what her mentor was saying. She couldn't afford any distractions.
" In just a few days you two will be in the arena." Dyland said " And I doubt either of you will be able to survive, unless you listen closely to what I'm about to say."

He turned to Marcus
" What's your weakness."

"Blades and Knives. Not that great at defending against them."
April smiled at herself, his greatest weakness was her greatest strength. She could take him out easily. If he thought he had a chance he was wrong, maybe he'd make to the end, but April would get him eventually

He was seriously sleeping, it was just a few days before April and Marcus was sent to the arena to fight to death and he was sleeping. Eustatsia dragged him off, and know April and Marcus were alone. Just to end the uncomftrable silence April said " I can't belive he fell asleep."

Well you're right about that though April, but she suddenly found herself interested in having a conversation with Marcus.
"Haha, he's a terrible mentor, I think my dog could do better."

"You've never watched the games?." April said, she was shocked usually everyone watched the games. "Dylan wasn't always like this, he used to be strong and more importantly smart, he tricked a bunch of the careers into thinking they had an alliance and then he killed them all while they slept."

April could feel the conversation dwindiling, so she decided to switch the subject " So do you have any sibilings, I have two sisters."

She was absolutley shocked to hear this, Marcus had clearly had a terrible life she felt so sorry about how she had treated him earlier "I-I'm so sorry." She didn't know what else to say.

April watched Marcus leave, clearly she had to wrong thing. As much as she wanted to dislike him she had been enjoying their conversation, then Dylan came back in
"What was that." April spat" You fell asleep! You are supposed to be helping us!"

"I don't know he left the room." April responded, "and if that's all you have to say I'm leaving too", she stomped out the room

April woke up bright and early to start trainging as she excerised on the train she though about Marcus, he was more interesting then she had though, but they were going to the games she couldn't trust anyone. Then as she went to go to breakfast she bumped into Marcus
" Oh damn we always seem to get in this situation." She said

"Omg" April burst into laughter as she watched Marcus spray Dylan with water " Great move Marcus."
Dylan angrily got up and started drying himself

April had clearly underestimated Marcus, she thought to herself that this might be someone she wanted on her side. "Hey since he's clearly not going to help us do you want to come strategize with me." April immedatly felt embaressed of her move, if she wanted to be a victor she could only form surface level allainces, but still maybe she could get some good advice out of him

April wondered how much exactly she should teach Marcus about how to survive, she didn't want him to be too much of threat so she started small, " So what do you know about survival in the games"

" Huh that's actually a pretty good plan, I plan to align myself with some of the stronger tributes, and then sneak away from them when it gets close to the end, i'll probably do something similar to your plan." You said your weakness is knives and mine is being slow so we can help each other train in that."

" Based on what they did last year... I don't think we have a great chance." April was hoping their stylists came up with something good, they both needed that to get sponsers.

April was done with Dylan, she and Marcus could mind themselves better. "Tell Dylan were not coming, he'll just fall asleep again." It's important Eustasia said and she led them over to where Dylan was.

April didn't know why she and Marcus had to form an alliance together, wouldn't it be better for her to form an alliance with the career tributes, but it was okay Marcus was strong she could see that and she knew to not get too attachted, "okay I'm fine with that."
"If you really want to help us start by telling us how you won your games."

April saw Marcus raise his eyebrow at Dylan's comment, he really was very different from most of 4 who thought of 12 as inferior.
" Isn't that up to you and the stylist to decide." She responded to Dylan " I thought tributes didn't get much of a say

What were April and Marcus supposed to do to look united? Kiss each other? Actually that might not be such a bad idea, a plan started forming in April's mind but she kept it to herself. " When are we arriving at the capitol?" she asked

April decided to take the leap
"We could pretend to be dating, the capitol would love the story and we would show how all classes in 4 can be united."
April nervously waited for their answers

And he was asleep again, April was starting to feel bad about the idea, would it make things awkward with Marcus, or worse would she get too attachted to him. " So do you think it's a good plan?" She asked.

April stepped outside and took it all in, she was now in the capitol. It was incredibly different from 4 and April was both fascinated and horrified,

Alex was walking along the streets trying to hide from the Peacemakers.

Lacey perched on a wooden swing hung from a tree that stood right next to her house. She used the tips of her toes to slowly rock herself back and forth.

Alex Put his hood on trying not to talk to anyone.

Lacey observed an odd man walking through the streets with his hood over his face. She stifled a yelp and jumped to the ground, as if her small swing would either hide or protect her.

Alex saw the girl and decided to walk by the peace makers behind him.

Once she thought he was gone, Lacey sprinted into her house - but kept a watchful eye on the outside. Just in case.

Alex Hid and got away and went back to where he saw the girl. "hello?"

Lacey peered through the curtains and saw that the man... actually wasn't a man at all. In fact, he looked younger than she. Timidly, she opened the door and crept outside.
"Hi," she said, barely audible. "I'm sorry."

He pulled off his hood Reviling his face the long scar running over his eye.
"No i'm Sorry for scaring you."

"What happened to your face," she blurted, before covering her mouth in shock at what she had said.

"my brother and I had an accident." he said looking at his feet.

Lacey sort of... stared blankly at him, realizing fully that she had gotten herself into this mess.
"I'm so sorry..." she said awkwardly, then trailed off.

She approached him and extended her hand. "I'm Sam," she said, giving a fake name - because even ten-year-olds could be psychopaths.

He knew to gain her trust he had to tell her his real Name. "Alex."
