Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller - 2* - My Review

I rather dislike reviewing books that I did not enjoy but I think it is important to know that this is not solely a book about a survivalist that lives for nine years with his daughter Peggy in a remote Bavarian cabin. It is that, but it also contains a lot of disturbing content, particularly regarding abdication of parental responsibilities. If I had known what the book is actually about, I would never have picked it up.

For me, this novel would have been much better if it had started after the ending, which contains the seemingly required “twists” that are so popular these days. As it is, Peggy tells us about her time in the cabin from two vantage points – one going through it as a younger child and another just after she survives it. The writing is decent. It is just “not for me” and I have a feeling not for others who do not want to spend their time reading about cruelty to children.
