Comedy and War & Travel

to help with choosing nominations, I have updated the threads containing the full list of books in each of these categories, showing which books have already been read - hopefully these are useful:

Leslie | 904 comments I'll start us off with 2 books I've been meaning to read for a while now:

Comedy - Pictures from an Institution by Randall Jarrell
GR blurb says: "Beneath the unassuming surface of a progressive women’s college lurks a world of intellectual pride and pomposity awaiting devastation by the pens of two brilliant and appalling wits. Randall Jarrell’s classic novel was originally published to overwhelming critical acclaim in 1954, forging a new standard for campus satire—and instantly yielding comparisons to Dorothy Parker’s razor-sharp barbs. Like his fictional nemesis, Jarrell cuts through the earnest conversations at Benton College—mischievously, but with mischief nowhere more wicked than when crusading against the vitriolic heroine herself."

War & Travel - All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy
GR blurb says: "Teenager John Grady Cole, the last of a long line of Texas ranchers, has nothing left to stay for. Across the border Mexico beckons—beautiful and desolate, rugged and cruelly civilized. With neighbor Rawlins, and scruffy boy, he rides toward an idyllic, sometimes comic adventure, to a place where dreams are paid for in blood."
