Allegra | 3 comments Hi I think you should read wolf song by Tj Klune or the house in the cerulean sea by Tj Klune

✨scribbles and stars✨ My vote is for The Spirit Bares its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White. This is one of my favorite books, and it has lots of rep in it. The writing is extraordinary, and the idea is excellent. Definitely look at the TW before reading, it has lots of gore, transphobia, repeated deadnaming, and SA

House in the Cerulean Sea was the book of the month in Oct 2021.

I'm not sure if Wolfsong qualifies as YA? TJ is usually low-mod sex content and not deep into violence, but I haven't read this one. Maybe I'll ask the group.

Mere Rain | 87 comments I would definitely not consider Wolfsong YA, although it covers a period when some characters are teens and then goes on to their adult lives.

Kim (lokilady) | 418 comments My library's collection team has classified it as adult.

Pamela (pamela__reads) | 1 comments Wolfsong is definitely not a YA book. If you want a YA book by TJ Klune then I recommend The Extraordinaries.

Teal (howiebing) | 237 comments I don't consider Wolfsong to be YA.

Allegra | 3 comments I loved wolfsong. I read it when I was 15 at the time, and personally I think it’s the best gay fiction I’ve ever read. Yes, there are a few sex scenes but I believe that they empathise the connection that they have.

Allegra | 3 comments Under the whispering door by tj Klune is a good one too but wolf song is my absolute favourite.

InfirmBookwyrm (theinfirmbookworm) | 1 comments Although it is a great book, and one of my absolute faves, I’d have to agree that “Wolfsong” is definitely not YA. I remember at least one pretty intense sex scene, but more importantly it does contain quite a lot of violence and just overall a lot of adult themes.

But, as someone else mentioned, “The Extraordinaries,” by TJ Kune, is absolutely YA. I think the whole Extraordinaries trilogy is amazing. It not only has a ton of great representation, but it’s a fun read with loads of action, emotion, and great characters. It’s also super funny, but still very endearing.

Yes, thank you <3 - we did The Extraordinaries for a book of the month Jan 2021 : you can find that discussion here:

Kaje Harper | 17396 comments I appreciate everyone's feedback. I read (and was writing) books with adult scenes and themes as a teen, but I do try to keep the group broadly YA-appropriate, so it looks like Wolfsong is out. (But also looks like I should push it up my own TBRs)
