I enjoyed my reread (listening to the audiobook while reading my beat up used paperback) - it was lovely to be back among the Tillingites!
True - I always remember a quote from an old review, something like “nothing they did ever mattered, but they attacked their squabbles with Machiavellian cunning and Attilan ferocity”! ;o)
The rivalry between Lucia and Elizabeth is just wonderfully entertaining. Their dabbling in the share market and influence on others in their circle had me chuckling as I read. Now we've just been through the election of Town Councillor with such entertainment, and that's not even mentioning Georgie's illness and beard. How could a beard cause such consternation!
Ha! Village life.
I remember my NZ grandmother rushing to the window with her binoculars any time a different car travelled down her one way road!

lol, so did one of my grandmothers. I have those binoculars now - somewhere! Not used for the same purpose. Oh, and grandmother didn't live on a one way road so she could be quite busy. :)

I find that now we have both Mapp and Lucia in the stories I am rooting for Lucia. With her in her own stories I would enjoy seeing her being taken down a peg or two; I find Mapp so repugnant that I love it when Lucia scores one over her. I adore quaint Irene, and the way she's not afraid to say it exactly as she sees it.
Exactly-Irene is expert at puncturing Elizabeth’s pretensions! She is the only person in Tilling Mapp doesn’t try talking down to - she’s actually civil, much good it does her!I am the same, rooting for Lucia to triumph over Mapp, if I have to choose; probably because Lucia at least senses when she’s losing favor among her fellow Tillingites. Elizabeth just ploughs right through, couldn’t care less about anyone else’s feelings or opinions!

This book was originally known as Lucia's Progress
I'll be a day or two late starting this book, as I have another lot of visitors coming, but I'll get to it ASAP.
I'll still be using my Mapp& Lucia omnibus edition.
Really looking forward to this one!
