The 52 Book Club: 2025 Challenge discussion

March 11, 2024 -- Week 11

We're starting week 11/52 so what better time to discuss prompt 11, "A title starting with the letter 'K.'"

For the past few years, we've been working our way through each of the letters of the alphabet. (A "challenge within the challenge.") This year, we're up to K, and Liz is finding it quite challenging!

So, which book are you using for this prompt?
Any fantastic recommendations for K titles?

(Remember, it's up to you whether you choose to count definite or indefinite articles like "A" or "The" in these title prompts.)

I wanted to use The Kinder Poison or The Kingdom but neither are available at my library. So I'm having to interpret the prompt a little differently and go with Where Dreams Descend since it's the first book in the Kingdom of Cards duology

Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI - I read this before the movie came out. Haven't seen the movie, but really enjoyed the book.
Kidnapped
Kepler's Witch: An Astronomer's Discovery of Cosmic Order Amid Religious War, Political Intrigue, and the Heresy Trial of His Mother - Another very interesting nonfiction read.

I read Klara and The Sun-4 stars. Another suggestion-I read The Knockout Queen for a character-driven novel and it was 5 stars.

I really enjoyed Key of Light, Key of Knowledge, and Key of Valor by Nora Roberts and the Kushiel's Dart and Kushiel's Scion series by Jacqueline Carey

I am planning on reading Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI but it may be moved to the indigenous prompt.

Kisscut by Karin Slaughter is near the top of my current stack...

It's a trilogy and thankfully I can read the 2nd and 3rd books for other prompts this year!

I think I am going to read The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan, but here are some other choices from my TBR:

Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite thriller writers. This book is really good.

Although I will likely read Killed at the Whim of a Hat by Colin Cotterill (first in a mystery series), these are the other books I have and had in mind:

I have three books that begin with K on my current TBR list:
Kitty in the Underworld by Carrie Vaughn (I'll probably use this one)
The King's Deception by Steve Berry (apostrophe in title)
Killing Time by Jodi Taylor (published in 2024)

I finished The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes over the weekend.

I'm going to read Kim and possibly also A Kestrel for a Knave.

I recommend: the Kite Runner and Killers of the Flower Moon

I haven’t chosen one for this prompt yet, but it’s great to see so many suggestions!

I only have 2 books that start with K in my lists, Kraken Bake by Karen Dudley (which I used for this prompt) and The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker from my tbr.
Kraken Bake is the sequel to Food for the Gods; both were fun romps through Greek mythology and I gave both 4 stars. The Keeper of Night is a Japanese mythology inspired YA fantasy novel. Both Kraken and Keeper are part of duologies, so it's a twofer if you still need something for that prompt too. : ).

I have already started on Krigarnas och helgonens tid : Västeuropas historia 400-800 e.Kr. by Dick Harrison. It was listed as futher reading in Karl den store by the same author, that I read last year, and I already owned a copy.

It is one of my Swedish history books, about the history of Western Europe 400-800 AD from the fall of the West Roman Empire to Charlemange.

Yesterday I also got a book for prompt 39 Non-fiction recommended by a friend, from a friend who is a librarian, since he was working when I was there to pick up a book.

The book he recommended is Eirik Raude by Øystein Morten, and I already had that on my wishlist, so I got it right away. Eirik Raude is the father of Leiv Erikson.

Killers of Flower Moon seems to be the only “K” book I’ve read in the last couple of years. It was good!

Looking at several different ones as options for the challenge. Like Kisses for Katie or Kite Runner or Kitchen House

For the prompt I read King of Wrath

However the following were good books that I read in the past:

Killer view by Roy Johansen Perfect for this and I’d missed reading it

I read The King of Torts by John Grisham.
It is a nice easy read with a good lawyer centric plot, as per usual with Grisham.

I haven't read one yet, but I'm thinking probably Killers of the Flower Moon.

I read A Kidnapped Santa Claus, because I couldn't find anything with a K that interested me and it was short. I wouldn't recommend it.

i am planning on Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn.
I meant to read it for the last challenge but it fits perfectly here.

I'm planning to read King and the Dragonflies.

I have a few beginning with “k” in my personal library that I have yet to read. King Solomon’s Mines; the Kalahari Typing School For Men; Kilmeny of the Orchard - by L.M. Montgomery - and I will probably read that one. I read Killing Time for another prompt - by Caleb Carr; a futuristic strange story.
