Linda Nielson | 408 comments This book takes place in 1964 in South Carolina. Lily, who is white, lives with her abusive father and their black housekeeper, Rosaleen. Her mother was killed when Lily was 4.
When something terrible happens in town, Lily runs away with Rosaleen and they end up in Tiburon, at the home of three black women who are beekeepers and sell honey. Amidst the prejudices surrounding her, Lily learns about beekeeping from these strong women, faces all her memories of her mother's death, and learns about forgiveness and love.
I really enjoyed the writing in this book and had a hard time putting it down.

Peacejanz | 1015 comments Thank you, Linda for a great review and for memories of this book a long time ago. I think I need to go find my tattered copy and reread it. And bad things always happen to black people in the South. Even today. This book was one of the first in the new wave of writing that black and white could live together. Thanks so much. peace, janz
p.s. - the author has written many wonderful books.
