I think I read the book around 2019-2020, I also think it has lgbtq representation, since they're alien races some of them are gender neutral. The name of the protagonist/or one of the characters is something like Jaheer, Zaheer, Tahir? Or something similar. I just read the earlier part, the protagonist met this campus admin when they first stepped foot in the new college, there's something wrong with their admission, they asked to have a room for one person but there's none available so they ended up having a roommate. I think they met this little girl who is sick, I think it's from cancer? Their roommate knows this girl and often comes to tell her stories/to make her laugh.
The protagonist comes from I think a respectable(?) family and their race rarely left their planet, but the protagonist wants to pursue education so they left their planet. I really want to read it, it feels like a comfort book. I think it has romance too? But I'm not too sure.
