Team Working Spreadsheet (WS) -> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...We'll use this working sheet to keep track of the books we claim and our completions.
If for some reason you cannot post your books to the SS, please use this format for completion posts in our thread.
1. Book read/author > share link for the version you read
2. *Resource Type/how it fits: weapon, food, shelter, defense
3. *Mini - how it fits
*Important*Please be as specific as possible...ie if the task calls for text, share loc/pg and a sample of the text

Countdown to END of FINAL Round 3|MINI ->https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
The timers are the same for everyone and account for the difference in time zone...so just use the timer to know if you are official :)
Note: Books can be started, but not finished until after the official start of the mini for them to count for the mini. Please ask if you have questions about this.
🏹RULES - Read First -> https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
🏹Helpful Resources
Need a word count for a book that may require an exception - try arbookfind -> https://www.arbookfind.com/UserType.a...
--Rules regarding word count-- Books with MPGs Childrens / Kids / Poetry / Play / Graphic Novel / Illustrated / Photography / Art (or which have "Illustrated" in the title or an "Illustrator" contributor in the metadata) must have at least 25,000 words (must be a verified count. sites that provide estimated word counts are not valid sources for verifying word count). ArBookFind is a great site to double check (there are .com, .co.uk and .com.au versions). If in doubt, ask your captain. Another rule of thumb is the audiobook version should be over 3 hours.
How to post a link to your book on the SS
1. Go to your the version of the book you are reading. COPY the address for your book. (ctrl + c)
2. Place your cursor in the spot, on the SS, where you want to put your link
4. PASTE (ctrl + v) the copied address in the box labeled 'LINK'
5. Type in the name of your book in the box labeled 'TEXT'
6. Click 'APPLY'
7. Double check you link works.

BOM Participation is an excellent opportunity to not only gain our team an advantage in points, but an opportunity to discuss new authors with others. There is a bit of extra work involved and the reward is points for our team. Details can always be found at the BOM tab on our WS.

🏹🏹 Hello District 4! 🏹🏹I'm thrilled to be reading with all of you! Michael, Melissa and I will all be your resources for questions/clarifications needed throughout the challenge.
For us veteran NBRC participants...this one is new, so we expect a learning curve for us all.
A couple of requests and suggestions that will for sure...I promise...add to all of our enjoyment for this challenge
🏹 Read the rules a couple of times...nothing worse than reading a book that can't be used...believe me...I've done it :z
🏹 Mark this thread to receive notifications...when you get one, check out what's going on in the thread.
🏹 Please check in at least once per week. You will enjoy the challenge more if you do. I know some prefer not to chat and that's fine...but we'll likely need all of us to be survive this challenge :)
🏹When you do check in...scroll through the chat to see what you missed / look for any posts that are comments for you specifically
🏹 Please ask if you don't understand something. We've all been new to this challenge stuff...it's very confusing at the start. Everyone will love to help...just ask!
Let's start with introductions...here's a few prompts to consider :)
🏹 A bit about yourself
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
🏹 When will you check in
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
🏹 A bit about yourself - I live in Missouri, a real estate agent, married with 2 grown children and 3 grand dogs :)🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
I love challenges because they have opened my world to reading lots of books I never would have thought to read!
I love doing team challenges and I'll admit I'm a bit competitive. I'm mostly a finisher...I like things to be 'complete' at the end of my day or whatever. I've met lots of great reading friends...and I look forward to adding you all as friends as well. I've challenged with some of you...they can vouch for me if you're worried :)
🏹 When will you check in
If I'm not busy with work...I'll check in throughout the day...central U.S.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
I once caught a huge bass fish...if I can find a photo, I'll scan it here so you can see what a talent I am at fishing...I'm not lying here!
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
I've read the initial 3 books and plan to read the prequel. Full disclosure I was disappointed with the ending for Mockingjay...that's all I'm going to say just in case some of you haven't read it. Would love to buddy read the prequal, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes if anyone is interested.
I have not seen the movies...I watch very little t.v.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
Have fun! checkin often, read the BOMs if they sound interesting to you...I'll have more for you as we prep for this challenge.
I'm looking forward to a new venture!
WELCOME TRIBUTES... TO DISTRICT FOUR!!!🏹 A bit about yourself
I live in Indiana, accounting analyst, movie enthusiast, no kids but lots of nieces/nephews/cousins to spoil. 💙 I, too, am very competitive so I have been known to read the most random things to try to complete as many tasks as possible. (Looking at you Chipmunk from Tower Teams....) But at the end of the day, as long as we complete everything - and have some fun along the way - I'm a happy camper.
🏹History with challenges...what do you love about them?
My first challenge was Uno 2023 and I caught the bug big time. I have played Tower Teams, Wheels, and Uno. I love that these challenges, specifically the minis, force me to dig into the endless TBR and find things that fit tasks. Also just finding other random books to read. I've even stumbled upon some new fave authors and genres this way.
🏹 When will you check in
OK listen - sleep and I have an interesting relationship. It happens when it happens. LOL. I can and will be around at all random times day and night.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
I have never found any interest in fishing. The few times I have done it (at a lake) were boring to me. I do enjoy eating a variety of seafood though, so I'm very happy there are people who find joy doing it.
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
I read all the books and watched all the movies as they were released. I don't remember how I got introduced to the first book, but it was shortly before the 2nd was released that I read it. I was hooked. I have been wanting to dust off the hardcovers and do a re-read and then subsequent re-watch of the books/movies, but just haven't made time. So I'm thrilled to have this challenge as a motivator to finally do that. 🤓 As for faves, I love the series as a whole. I do love Katniss of course (team Gale, sorry), Effie, Rue, and Finnick (District 4) as far as characters go.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
Don't get too stressed out trying to find connections to books/tasks. Just have fun, that's the point after all.
Let's do this District 4!! 🏹🔪💣🔥🐟
May the Odds Be Ever in Our Favor!!!
🏹 A bit about yourselfMy name is Sharon and I live in Northeast Pennsylvania with my husband and our dog, Millie. I am the director of a community foundation for my area. I love reading mysteries/thrillers, chick-lit, literary fiction, and sometimes historical fiction.
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
I love reading challenges!! They help me knock books off my TBR and I get to interact with other fun readers. I've been participating for a few years and have done UNO, Towers, and Wheel.
🏹 When will you check in
Definitely once a week. As long as work isn't nuts for me (I work alone, so I wear a lot of hats) I can check in daily or at least every other day.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
I am not really a fisher, but the few times I have gone, I enjoyed the peaceful aspect of it. I think I'd be ok fishing without actually catching any fish.
I lived near the beach when I was younger and loved to go crabbing.
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
I have not read the books or watched the movies. That's kind of a blind spot for me.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
Have fun and check in often, especially if something's going on that's affecting your reading. I've been on teams where something comes up for someone and we've all been able to pitch in and cover for them so we still meet our goals.
Also here is the link to my shelf for this challenge 😊
Sharon wrote: "🏹 A bit about yourselfMy name is Sharon and I live in Northeast Pennsylvania with my husband and our dog, Millie. I am the director of a community foundation for my area. I love reading mysteries/..."
Welcome Sharon! Thank you for the service to your community...I'll be it gets harry when you have to deal with an event.
I appreciate the shelf...will get that updated.
What's your favorite mystery/thriller this year?...I love this genre as well and am looking for an in-person book club recommendation.
🏹 A bit about yourselfHello! I'm Melissa from Vermont. I am a middle school teacher with two grown kiddos and lots of pets. I'm a co-captain on this challenge.
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them? I just love them. They fuel my reading. I have read some books that I never would have looked at twice, and many of them were good! And a couple were humorously terrible. I love a good competition and I love to hear what other people are reading.
🏹 When will you check in
Every day - morning or night
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
I had a student teach me how to fish once! I caught a sunfish! (lol, not much!)
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
Yes. I love the second book. Cinna is my favorite character, and after him, Katniss is my favorite.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team? Don't be afraid to read weird! :) Put your books on your shelves! And of course, have fun :)
Tammie wrote: "Sharon wrote: "🏹 A bit about yourselfMy name is Sharon and I live in Northeast Pennsylvania with my husband and our dog, Millie. I am the director of a community foundation for my area. I love rea..."
Me too.
I love Jane Harper.
Hi everyone!🏹 A bit about yourself - My name is Elen (she/her/hers), I'm a medical laboratory scientist from Estonia. Right now, I read mostly thriller/mystery/crime, and a little bit of fantasy, and sci-fi. Previously fantasy was my main genre to read, but in the past years, I have been in a fantasy slump. And my least favourite genre is romance (romance as a subgenre is okay).
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them? - The first challenge that started the love for reading challenges was uno in 2018. They help me to read more as I'm pretty competitive.
🏹 When will you check-in - I visit the thread daily but comment as needed or once a week.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all! - I don't eat fish.
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc - I've read books and watched movies multiple times. 1st - the scene of Katniss volunteering and before the win (berries). 2nd - Finnick Odair (funny, sarcastic etc.). 3rd - was meaningful but also the most boring one.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team? - Have fun and let's do our best!!
Shelf: book-games-2024
🏹 A bit about yourself: I'm Stacey (OH) or Stacey S, whichever is easier. I haven't met many other Stacey's, particularly those who spell their names the same, so it will be fun to be on a team with another. I'm from Ohio, hard to guess from how I'm listed. I'm married with 1 daughter and a dog and teach/do research in the biomedical word.🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them? Learned about UNO a few years ago and have been doing challenges ever since. I enjoy learning about new books from others and from some of the off the wall challenges.
🏹 When will you check in: I'll check the page most days (except for when I'm on vacation). Will add books as I go. Posting varies.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
Haven't fished since I was a kid with my grandparents. I enjoy the water and eating seafood though!
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
Read the books then saw the movies. I enjoyed them, though it's been awhile.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
No, just planning on having fun reading!
Oh, and my shelf: 2024 book games
Tammie wrote: "Sharon wrote: "🏹 A bit about yourselfMy name is Sharon and I live in Northeast Pennsylvania with my husband and our dog, Millie. I am the director of a community foundation for my area. I love rea..."
I love Lucy Foley’s books. The Guest List is probably my fave.
Early this year I read The Night Shift and The Only Survivors and gave them both 5 stars.
Love that you have an in-person book club! I do too but we haven’t gotten together in a while - life has been too busy for all of us.
Hi all I'm Jasmine from a fenland town near Cambridge, UK. British Australian with a love of travel.I primarily Home educate my son as well as work part time, Squirrel (scouts) leader, Rotarian, volunteer at my local museum and am an avid litter picker.
I love thrillers and historic fiction. I read a lot of Australian authors too.
This is my first challenge in this group so i may need a little help figuring out what to do.
I have been piranha fishing in Ecuador before.
Loved the hunger game books and the movies.
jasxx
🏹 Hi I am Stacey from Indiana. I work in Finance. I have been married for 26 years later this month and I have three adult kids and two little grandsons. I read a bit of everything but I absolutely love biographical historical fiction. I love the history of people. Meaning I am not into who won what battles in what wars and such but let me learn everything about how people lived during various time periods in various places. I also love Cats. Cats and Books go together like peanut butter and jelly.🏹I think this is my third challenge. I really like being nosey and seeing what others are reading and enjoying.
🏹 I am always reading for the challenge but I'm not constantly checking in. Let's promise at least weekly.
🏹 No fish tales unless loving The Little Mermaid counts.
🏹 Ok this is ridiculous but true. Years ago when my daughter was in junior high, she kept begging me to read the Hunger Games. I had no idea what it was about and whatever brief summary she gave me, had me thinking it was just a bunch of kids put on an island to starve to death. So I was like no way am I reading that. OOF. Finally read them and was obsessed. The movies were some of the best book to screen adaptions I've seen.
🏹 No questions really but I'd love to see what you guys end up reading and loving or reading and wanting your time back :)

Great to see everyone is checking in…Welcome!Ok…Elen, Melissa, Stacey and Jasmine…I vow to check out this Harper author asap. Am tbr’ing a book now!
@Jasmine…I think we all need to know more about this piranha fishing in Ecuador adventure…so far you are in the running for best fish adventure but more details are needed please ;) …and what’s a litter picker?
@Stacey…little Mermaids totally count. I had same thing with my daughter…only it was the Twilight series as well. I liked them both and enjoyed the buddy reading with my daughter :)

Jasmine, I’m a Rotarian too!
🏹 A bit about yourselfHello! I am M from Vancouver, Canada. I live in my little hobbit hole with too many books and my cat.
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
I have participated in many challenges. Many of them allow me to broaden my reading horizons and pick something other than Fantasy or Science Fiction. Thanks to one of my recent challenges, I started to love cozy mysteries.
🏹 When will you check-in
Daily
🏹 Any fish tales? We are District 4, after all!
No fish tales, but I do have a great Maple Dijon Salmon recipe.
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorite books in the series, characters, scenes, etc.
Neither. It is a grey area for me.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
When you read always have on warm socks, a good cup of tea, and a comfortable spot for your cat. Snacks are optional.

Yes please on the maple salmon recipe!
🏹 A bit about yourselfI live in Louisiana, married with 4 kids. My youngest graduates HS 05/10 and goes to college in the fall. I also have 4 grandkids and 1 niece and 3 nephews, so now my sister and my son has caught up with me in the children dept. except where I have 1 boy and 3 girls, they both have 3 boys and 1 girl. And both of them have a set of twins, I currently work from home after I had to leave my job of 18 years once I got sick unexpectedly, but I'm doing better now, but will continue to work remotely as long as it lasts.
Obviously, I love to read. Physical books, ebooks, or audio. I have no preference in format. I love romance, but I do read other genres.
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
All challenges motivate me, but team challenges more so since we all count on each other to "get her done". With individual I take my rime more, but that's okay because I mainly try to do the ones that are at your own pace, quarterly, bi-annually, or yearly
🏹 When will you check in
As long as I'm not babysitting, which means no getting on devices, then I'm usually checking team threads at most daily, but at least once a week.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
The only fish tales I have is that I love to eat it. I just recently had some whole catfish, which is my favorite, but it wasn't seasoned as well as I like.
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
I have read the books and watched the movies. I love them all. I love so many of the characters, but I don't know if it was more from the books of their portrayal in the movies. Funnily enough my daughter has been watching the movies over the last couple days. She stopped today after watch Mockingjay Part 1 and I don't know how she had the self-control. 😂
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
No questions currently, but I'm excited to get started.
My Shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... (2024-nbrc-book-games)
I’m in Nashville for a few days …very humid here…had a delicious teriyaki flavor with the salmon tonight…I think candied walnut crumbs on top…very goodAfter we went to a neighboring bar where the dj played techno…now I’m not picky…but we’re in Nashville people…I think that calls for country music or at least close to…geesh!
This place is a lot busier with bachelorette parties, etc…really changed since I was her 15 yrs ago
🏹 A bit about yourselfHi, I live in Eastbourne on the South Coast of the UK. I am 37 currently awaiting the arrival of Nephew Number 2. I love F1 and so have lost my voice as was screaming about Lando.
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
I love a challenge because it keeps me reading, I am very good at getting distracted and a challenge always brings me back.
🏹 When will you check in
Probably a couple of times a week, prob mid week and then the weekend
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
I have trauma related to fish, A gold fish kamikazed itself to death by flying out the bowl and landing on my 5 year old self before slipping down my jumper to the floor. They freak me out!!

OMG - My friend had a saltwater fish tank and her husband had all kinds of things, including a small shark (it was like 6-8" long)... one day we heard her dog barking and came in the room to see what looked like a 💩 on the floor - we turned on the light to see the shark had jumped out and was flopping about on the floor. We were too scared to touch it so it stayed there for almost an hour until he got home! LOL. Somehow, it was still alive and he scooped it up and put it back into the tank. I will say I think it had serious brain damage bc it was just way off after that - often swimming in circles. 😢☹😔
Hello Tammie, nice to see you again. Here is the recipe for you and Melissa. I hope you like. I also admit that yes, I am a hobbit and I like to cook.It is for 2 servings
2 - 6 oz salmon fillets
2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon of pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 clove of garlic, minced
salt and pepper to taste
*Preheat oven to 400. Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil.
*Mix olive oil, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, salt and pepper in a small bowl.
*Place salmon fillets skin side sown on the baking sheet. Brush the glaze on the fillets.
*Bake for 12-15 minutes, it should flake easily with a fork.
*let it rest for a few moments before serving. I like having it with a little rice and broccoli. If Maple is not to your taste you can use honey instead.
🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹Here’s a bit just posted today regarding informal Buddy Reads for Hunger Games…I know Michael plans to read…anyone else?
Hunger Game Buddy Reads
Informal buddy reads will be held for the original trilogy of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. One informal buddy read for each month of the challenge.
Informal buddy reads means there will not be formal discussion questions as with our groups BOMs.
However, in order to earn the 20 points for participation, players need to post at least 3 posts that provide a reasonable contribution to the discussion of the book. You do not need to provide a school worthy book report, but the posts need to be more than "Katniss is awesome" or "I love this book" to count for participation points.
The Buddy Reads for each book will run as follows:
The Hunger Games: May 15th to June 15th
Catching Fire: June 15th to July 15th
Mockingjay: July 15th to August 15th
For tracking purposes, captains please just add the buddy reads to the BOM tab in your spreadsheet with the appropriate links to the BR discussion posts. Thank you :)

Good idea…I’m not sure yet if I’ll reread. I probably will…it’ll be quicker with it being a reread. I’m going to read the prequel first…we won’t get any extra points for it, but I may set up an informal buddy read anyway.
We’re waiting on a couple more teamies to check in. We’ll be asking everyone to share their initial reads here in a few days…look for that by Saturday. I’ll be quiet for a few more days as I wrap up some travel :)
Hi team, nice to meet you all.🏹 A bit about yourself
I am Rina, software developer and I live in Switzerland (the country with the best chocolate and the best cheeses, which suits me, since I love them both, lol).
I have a dog, he was a stray dog from Spain and we have him since 2016. I am doing mantrailing (tracking missing persons) with him, but just for fun, not professionally.
🏹 History with challenges...what do you love about them?
I have participated in many challenges, though I have taken a break in the last couple of years. I love challenges, since I learn many new authors or read books from genres that I usually don't read.
🏹 When will you check in
I work 3 days/week from office and need 1 hour to get there, so I probably won't be online on my office days. On my home-office days and weekends, I'll be able to check in.
🏹 Any fish tales? We are district 4 after all!
I have never been fishing, so no :-)
🏹 Have you read or watched the Hunger Games? Any favorites books in the series, characters, scenes, etc
I love the books (the original trilogy, I haven't read the prequel yet), the movies were okay but way worse than books in my opinion. I love Haymitch.
🏹 Any advice or questions for the team?
Let us have fun :-)
Welcome Rina! Looking forward to making our own 'fish tales' for sure!
I've been to beautiful Switzerland...look forward to visiting again in the future!
Hello all I'm Stephie from NYC. I am married with a 2 year old and two cats. I love cycling, reading, anime, and traveling.I believe my first challenge was Uno 2019. I have done them every year and added in Towers, and Wheel. I am very competitive so these challenges open my reading to anything that will fit a task if I cannot find it on my TBR. It is a great way to read outside of your comfort zone. I also enjoy meeting new people who live all over!
I normally check in a few times a week unless I am on a vacation with no reliable internet. Such as cruises lol
I tried fishing and I am not very proficient in it. However, I love LOVE me some salmon. When I had my baby my husband brought me an armada of salmon sushi and rolls to the hospital. What a glorious day that was haha!
I've read the books and watched the movies but it has been YEARS. I will definitely be interested in joining the unofficial buddy reads. Despite my anger that they are stories about killing kids for the entertainment of adults... for the most part.
My advice be open to different reads unless trigger of course. Ask questions as needed. I know for sure I will! Have fun!
Welcome Stephie! Glad to have another experienced teamie to lead us in this new challenge! We've got some serious love for salmon here...I'll share my latest recipe here soon too. I've been doing some travelling and not quite back to full reading form...
We had some serious hail damage at our house with storms a few weeks ago...so I'm dealing with that
I'm kinda excited for Mother's Day...not sure if it's recognized in other countries...but my sister is coming for a visit tomorrow. Our mom has passed...but we'll be doing some reminiscing. My grown children are taking us to lunch on Sunday. Anyone have anything fun planned for the weekend? Maybe some good reads on deck?

Yes, salmon! Yes, salmon sushi!!
I am going to read two books this weekend 🤞🏼The Night Parade and Shy: The Alarmingly Outspoken Memoirs of Mary Rodgers. I'm on a women's memoir kick these days. Any suggestions?
Aside from that, I hope to get in the garden and putter around.
