Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1658 comments Attention District 6 Tributes!

Welcome! Today begins your training! We want to be ready for all the twists and turns from the mods Gamemakers! I recognize a few names (Andy - you’re stuck with me again!), but please introduce yourselves with your name (or what you'd like for us to refer to you as) and a link to your Book Games Shelf… and anything else you'd like to tell us. No need to go into detail if you do not wish to! Can’t think of anything to say? Try an Ice Breaker Question (or 2)!

🏹What Team Challenges have you participated in?
🏹Do you have a favorite Hunger Games District?
🏹What’s your favorite color?
🏹Since District 6’s industry is transportation, what is your favorite way to travel?
🏹What book are you most looking forward to reading in the near future?

If you’re not talkative, that’s ok, but please check in once a week so that we know you are playing, even if you haven't read anything! If you are chatty, it’s welcome, feel free to tell us anything, and everything! 🙂

Important Links:
🏹Official Team Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
🏹Current Points Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

📑 Team Planning Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
This is our MAIN way of logging books and seeing what we need to complete rounds! Please fill out all the information you can, to make it easy for your captains to transfer things to our main sheet.

Are you a "Planner"? EXCELLENT!!! You can start adding books now if you want to! Are you a "Read by the Seat of Your Pants-er"? PERFECT!! You can add books as you start or finish them! Do you HATE and DESPISE spreadsheets? That is alright too, you can do a completion post in the thread, but make sure you provide us with more information than you think we will need! 😉

⚠️ SO IMPORTANT!
All finished books must be marked as read (with a date) and added to your Book Games Shelf. This helps us verify your book! Don't forget to add the edition you actually read. For audiobooks, you can use the audio edition -or- the Goodreads default edition (this is what we will use for the page count).

All About & Rules:
Official "All About Book Games" Thread
Please read the rules carefully and if you have questions, your Captains are here to help! We don’t want any fallen Tributes!

📖 Book Length:
Books must be at least 100 pages in length. If your book has an MPG of Childrens / Kids / Poetry / Play / Graphic Novel / Illustrated / Photography / Art (or has "Illustrated" in the title or an "Illustrator" contributor in the metadata), the word count must be verified as more than 25,000 words on arbookfind.com (.co.uk, .com.au) or the audiobook length must be over 3 hours on audible.com (or a similar reputable site). If in doubt, ask!

📌Make sure that you have notifications turned on, so that you don't miss anything!

May the odds be ever in your our favor!
P.S. we’ve been hearing rumors that District 6 has been having problems with morphling use, so… let’s try to keep our wits about us!

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1658 comments Hi Team! I'm so excited to play Book Games with everyone! We have an excellent team and some brilliant co-captains (who are probably going to show me up! 🤣🤣)

A little about me... I'm a small-business owner (dog & cat-related, feel free to spam us with your pet pics) and I like to read most anything. My favorites are Fantasy (and related sub-genres), Romance, and Historical Fiction. My least favorite is Mysteries (but I enjoy Thrillers now and then).

I have participated in all the main Team Games around here (Wheels, Towers, UNO), but I skipped the last "different" one, the Restaurant one (I've heard it was... fun 😆)....

My favorite color is usually purple and I was a big fan of the Hunger Games books when they first were published, (the movies were good too), so I think this game will be a cornucopia of fun!

P.S. Sammy, tribute of District 1, has introduced a... we'll call it a side quest, the "Thirst Games". Feel free to join in on the fun!

Hello Hello everyone!

And welcome to Jurassic World Book Games!

We may have started off with the wrong book, but it'll be a blood bath one way or the other.
Or was I not supposed to mention that?
Are you scared now?
Sorry.
It won't be that bad.
I don't think.

Anyway! I'm Eldarwen (or E), one of your co-captains for this challenge, and I hope you're going to enjoy the Book Games! :-)

Keri | 379 comments Hi everyone!! I’m from the USA and so excited to be joining Book Games! I am reading challenge obsessed. I’ve done UNO, Towers, Wheels, CLUE, Turf Wars, so many more team ones through many groups, along with several go at your own pace ones over at FLOAB. I do a Tic-Tac-Toe prompt card challenge monthly with my sister, and even made myself my own TBR game to play monthly along with several TBR jars to pick books from in fun ways. I am not a great decision maker if you can’t tell by that last part—so many choices of books!!!

I’ll read some of almost any genre but my favorites are fantasy and mystery/thriller. My least favorites are classics and historical fiction (but I do like some just need to be in the mood). I avoid smut, and everything else falls in the middle for me.

My favorite colors are green and blue, but I really love tie dye so many colors work for me! I’m known for having many tie dye t-shirts and run tie dyeing events for fun days at work. I’m a supervisor at a mail order pharmacy which often feels like adult babysitting with the dramatics of high school, but the good days I love my job when I feel like I’m really helping make a difference in someone’s day or career path by helping them develop.

Anouschka | 123 comments Hi guys! This will be my first team challenge, very excited! I'm Anouschka, but most people call me Nous. I live in the Netherlands.

I'm an optician (depending on where you live, this might be a bit different than you expect) and currently studying to become a contactlensspecialist. Mid June I have two important examens, so I'll probably be glued to a different kind of book round then.

I used to read a lot of thrillers and contemporary romance, moved to historical romance and currently my reading varies a bit more. I do tend to read historical fiction/romance the most. I switch between English and Dutch books depending on my mood.

Always on the hunt for new books to read, don't be fooled by my very cute TBR shelf here, it's very much incomplete haha.

Hello everyone!

What a great mix of challenge experiences and locations so far 😊

As an intro, I live in Sydney, Aus with my husband and 2 boys and run a HR consulting business. I read almost everything except Horror, and I'm not a massive Romance reader.
My business and kids keep me pretty busy, but I do love being a mod here also as I love books and spreadsheets and it is an interesting creative outlet to make challenges about reading :)

For work I've also been deliving into AI and prompt engineering (future of work implications but also using it for the business for podcast ideas, training materials etc.) and so I've had some fun creating the images for this challenge. I hope you enjoy them!

I'm all on board for travelling on that train! :-D

Having recently experienced how smooth the Norwegian trains run (Lisa, I'm wondering if we were there at the same time? Though I was only in Oslo for a weekend), I'm very pro-train at the moment hehe.

It does look so nice. I don't mind the outfits either. Bit better than tyre pants 😁

message 29: by Brigia (new)

Brigia | 205 comments Hi everyone, I’m checking in.

I’m from Germany and have done a bunch of team challenges, though I’m not sure I’ve done one in NBRC before. I’m a psychotherapist, but I’m currently on parental leave with my 7 months old daughter. She’s responsible for some serious sleep deprivation at the moment, which gets in the way of my reading sometimes - but luckily, audiobooks exist :) I’ve also got an adventurous four-year-old and a very shy cat running around here, so life’s never boring!

My favorite genre is usually romance and I’ll read anything that has a dash of it. Though this year I’ve been trying to make my way through last year‘s goodreads awards winners and nominees and discovered some favorites that I would not have picked up otherwise.

I love traveling, too - looks like district 6 is a good fit!

Ooh, I was in Oslo 5-8th.. took the airport train and then the train from Oslo to Bergen. The trains were smooth.. not so much the seas, (on the Havila ferry to Kirkenes) but coming from a temperate climate the snow was pretty thrilling. My next train adventure will be the shinkansen in Japan. Looking forward to that.

Andy (_btp) | 732 comments Hi D-6ers
I’m from Ireland
Have taken part in Uno and Tower previously, including the just completed Uno2024 under the illustrious captainage of Ashley!
Really looking forward to this challenge with this group

Must include my reading buddy in all group intros
She’s much better breaking the ice than I am

I read most genres – particularly fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction and some biographies occasionally
Always open to recommendations, even as TBR list mushrooms

I'm mostly a library based reader, for budgetary and storage reasons
Expecting to have this in as first read of the challenge and very much looking forward to it
To Say Nothing of the Dog (Oxford Time Travel, #2) by Connie Willis

My favourite way to travel for the next few months is going to be by bike
Planning to cycle the Ring of Kerry in July, only just revived the bike from its hibernation, so we need to get reacquainted!

Andy (_btp) | 732 comments continuing the train motif, and given our Dutch and German team-mates (hi Nous, Brigia)
I did get to travel Amsterdam / Eindhoven / Dusseldorf this spring by train
I love the train network on continental Europe
Our system here on this island had been very much degraded over time in favour of roads, roads, roads

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6489 comments Awww.. Andy that is one cute reading companion.. 😍

Good luck on you riding the Ring of Kerry, lovely scenery, itty bitty road, LOL.

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1658 comments Hello Brigia! Lovely to have you! My husband has family in Germany (Munich). We visited in 2017 and it was amazing!

We didn't travel by train, I was quite disappointed, but we were doing some extensive traveling through Europe and ended up deciding to rent a car instead. It is so expensive to travel that way, but we had unreliable bits to our traveling and felt that the car would give us more flexibility, but in hindsight I think we were wrong. I was also pregnant at the time, so... well, when we go back I'll do the trains. I was a bit traumatized in Paris in a car!

Hi Andy! Long time no see! Glad to have you and your pup!

Hello Sonia!

Anouschka | 123 comments Andy, I am a bit jealous of your reading companion! Amsterdam - Düsseldorf is great by train.
Amsterdam - (Disney) Paris as well, did that last February.

Ashley, I can't imagine driving through Paris. It's Amsterdam city centre with an extra dash of chaos haha. Depending on where you are going, going by car is great but some city centres are best avoided.

Karen ⊰✿ | 16703 comments Mod
I was trying to think about the last time I did train travel (other than city trains!!) and I think it would have been in 2003 through China 😊 We did some overnight trains which I mostly remember from the toilets (we somehow managed to hold it all night rather than go there) and the torches in the face at night from authorities checking we were who we said we were (as your passports are given to the local auths at each stop). It was weird as I was only distrubed by the light and then just managed to go back to sleep right away (and freak out a little in the morning and ask our guide what that was all about haha).

I haven't been to Europe since about 2002 although we did go to Russia in 2011, but we flew from Moscow to St Petersburg and then again to London before heading home.

I'm just not travel fit anymore. The idea of flying more than 9 hours just isn't appealing ... I think our next long haul flight will be to the US but that may be a few years away yet.

Speaking of travel, I should mention I am away from June 15-21 in Bali for a conference. I'm not sure I will have much time for reading or checking in but will do my best.
I am then leaving for (southern) Thailand on June 28 for a week which will be a relaxing holiday so I will/should be able to read quite a bit. Then I fly into Vietnam and we are travelling through Vietnam and Cambodia for 2 weeks which will probably be all a bit crazy so I won't be on much I think between July 6 and 19, then we are back to Thailand (Bangkok) for a couple days before heading home.

So essentially I wil be here sporadically between June 15 and July 21 which is why E agreed to help me co-captain :)
