I'm getting my goodread logs all caught up, but I finished this one a week or so ago, and I think it easily has become one of my new favorite novels! A bit of a downer of a book, but the descriptions of the coal mine and the workers really endeared me to it. It felt extremely modern as a book, and with all the sex and violence in it, I'm surprised it was written when it was. I think the fact that while we have made progress with workers rights, we still see similar class issues today which makes the book still feel fresh and pertinent.
