I haven't read that yet, either. The group read that in January BUT I'm waiting for a copy from my library (am finally closer in line) so if you'd like to chat about it with me on our January discussion once I get it, that would be great.
Have we read any Percival Everett? I have a copy of So Much Blue on my nightstand. A bit self-serving, but I'm guessing copies of James and Erasure are in short supply at local libraries.
I don’t know what happened. I think I missed the group read for June. I finished How to say Babylon, wow! The audio was worth the 2.5 month wait from the library. I began reading The Wake of the Wind by J. California Cooper - what another great read! I am on page 120 and my heart has been in my throat for many pages now because I just know some terrible awful things are about to happen to Lifee and Mor. I would love to suggest it for the July group read if a book has not already been chosen. If it has, then please let me know what it is. Thanks - dosha

I Missed June as well. I thought maybe you all were still reading the Babylon book because it took so long for people to get it from libraries. But I’m not sure what happened either.
Hey y'all!! I know it's been a while but it took some time for everyone to get and finish reading April's group read. It seems as though most people that wanted to read it have completed the book so it's time to move on to our next read.
July's poll link is below and it will close July 1st at 11:59pm PST.

Thanks Shaylah,You are the absolute best!
It took me forever to get How to say Babylon. I have to say it was well worth the wait! I thought she was gonna die, then I remembered she wrote this, and is narrating so she must still be alive, lol. Excellent read. I am very glad it was a group read and I am part of this group. A huge thanks to everyone for their patience. I wish I knew how to put my review of HTSB on the discussion thread using my phone. Maybe one day I’ll become tech savvy, but I doubt it.
Hey Everyone!
Just wanted to update y’all on the book that won.
It’s The Wake of the Wind. I’ll create the thread later today.
Thanks for voting!!

Okay. I'm trying to limit my reading around any wars, especially ones the US was involved with, and was hoping for American Daughters even though I don't tend to like novels about real people. However, I'll borrow The Wake of the Wind and give it a try although I already have a pile of books here for July :)
The Author’s note at the beginning of The Wake of the Wind is just beautiful. I remember Gone With the Wind. White folks were very very sad that a way of life is now gone with the wind. The black folx were not sad. We were glad that that way of life, namely slavery, was gone with the wind. But, blacks were left to survive in the wake. The Wake of the Wind, so far, is beautifully written. I am on the edge of my seat though.
Hey Group,
So I created the group read discussion thread but it's not showing up in the 2024 group read folder. The link is below, can you all click it and see if it work on your end. For me, the link will take me to the post but I can't find the post without the link. Let me know if you're having issues. Thanks in advance.

Your post really has me intrigued and I can't wait to start the book.
You mentioned Gone with the Wind, is this book like a parallel time with the movie or are there similarities? I've never seen Gone with the Wind so I'm not sure what it's about.

No this book is not related to GWTW, the author really wants us to know that GWTW is a romanticized white version of slavery and she is telling us the real deal. This book is not about slavery. Slavery is gone with the wind. This book is about what happens after the wind has finished blowing.

As an adult I couldn't stand Scarlet, who is the epitome of selfishness, etc, and DNF it very quickly.
That said, when I was a teen I had no idea of all of the full depth of atrocities associated with slavery or how ingrained so much racism was and is, even in Canada (in Canada it's more of a polite racism--I first heard the term polite racism from a black Canadian from Ontario since my home province has so very few black people in it.)
Hey Group!
Ok, the thread is created and showing up in the group reads folder now, I'm not sure what was going on yesterday but it's fixed. The link is below.
