He stepped outside, to take a deep breath.
To smile.
To laugh.
He lost all his regret.
He strolled down the street, and to his surprise, a familiar figure stood before his eyes.
A redheaded figure, in a dark-colored coat. He walked past Neo, headed toward his home.
Neo didn't mind. He was someone he could trust!
He showed him tender care when all he knew was lust.
He continued to stroll, moving from here to there. until, suddenly, a familiar scent filled the air.
The smell of smoke,
and flames,
And ashes in the sky.
He turned and stared. There were embers in the sky!
He ran home, as fast as he could manage, only to find his only home, fiery, mangled, and unmanaged.
He stopped at the door, unable to enter.
The sights.
The sounds.
His eyes began stinging.
Not from smoke,
nor from flames,
but from utter fear.
He lost her.
His everything.
The door opened, and Ashe exited the house.
Neo breathed a sigh of relief and stepped forward.
But a hand from behind prevented further movement.
It was his friend,
the one who showed him care.
He held him there, while all he did was stare.
Ashe showed her face, engulfed in orange flames.
Eating at her countenance, the flames tickled her body, taking pieces as she writhed.
Neo couldn't move.
Even if he wasn't being bound,
he couldn't help.
he couldn't intervene.
He stood and stared.
He couldn't even scream-

Ashe did not suffer from that luxury.
Her wails,
her cries,
they pierced the night sky,
until,
like her,
they studdered,
...
and they died.
