The kickoff reading and in some ways the inspiration for this group is Mary Lover’s Upstream.

In this book, Oliver’s essays make the case for living a life enriched by the complementary inspirations found in nature and great (or at least honest) writing. I for one am all in for this connection, and find Oliver’s writings to be the perfect guide for exploring both worlds given her talents for keen observation and for conveying wonder in simple yet surprising language. I suspect that I am not alone on this.

If you know her writing, or more specifically her essays presented in this book, do you feel the same? Or rather do you feel she misses the mark?
Is there an essay from Upstream (or poem from her other work if you like) that stands out to you in terms of tying nature together with language?
