That's a really good question, but I have no answer for you! My husband's from the south, but he's not much of a history reader, so I doubt he would know of any either (although he can tell me generally about the "War of Northern Aggression" :) ).
There are quite a lot of books about General Lee - I think in the field of Civil War studies there are only more books about Lincoln.I have heard good things aboutRobert E. Lee A Biography, by Emory Thomas; Lee Considered General Robert E. Lee and Civil War History, by Alan Nolan; The Marble Man Robert E. Lee and His Image in American Society, by Thomas Connolly; and Robert E. Lee Icon for a Nation, by Brian Holden Reid.
Books mentioned in this topic
Robert E. Lee: A Biography (other topics)Robert E. Lee: Icon for a Nation (other topics)
Lee Considered: General Robert E. Lee and Civil War History (other topics)
The Marble Man: Robert E. Lee and His Image in American Society (other topics)

My husband is interested in reading one, and I'd really like to find a good one for him as a gift.
TIA!
