Welcome to the Inheritance Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on May 18th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

(view spoiler)[My favorite thing about this series are the recaps of sorts at the start to refresh your memory on what has happened previously. It's been quite a few months since I read Brisingr so still a bit lost on things. Since this is the last of the original series, I am curious to see how things play out. Something will definitely happen with that weapon they discovered. We shall see what happens next! (hide spoiler)]

up through end of chapter 12 (dancing with swords):
(view spoiler)[A bit predictable and repetitive with the battle stuff and plotting. I do think that we see Eragon's growth overall with how he is handling the same things over and over. (hide spoiler)]

This read is bringing back fond memories of my first time through.

I love the re-caps as well, it definitely helped jog my memory for a few things I had forgotten.
The battle scenes always had me enthralled when I was younger, now reading them, they play out much the way my dnd campaigns do. I still love them, the flow and description gives a piece by piece action.
Once again, I am crying over Oromis and Glaedr - The Obi-Wan Kenobi for Eragon, and probably my favourite characters.

through end of chapter 18 (a toss of the bones): (view spoiler)[Angela is by far the character I am most intrigued by. I hope we learn more about her and her background in this one. I am also torn between if I like Roran or Eragon more. They are really similar but are also pretty different. (hide spoiler)]

I am most definitely behind (work has been NUTS) but will hopefully be able to catch up a bit tomorrow and this weekend!

through end of chapter 24 (the way of knowing):
(view spoiler)[Glaeder gives Yoda vibes and Oromis more Obi-Wan vibes. I'm glad to see Glaeder back in a way. I still enjoy that we are getting both Eragon's story but also Roran's. I am struggling a bit with all the battle scenes and hope other stuff other than just battle's start to happen a bit more. (hide spoiler)]

through end of chapter 30 (infidels on the loose):
(view spoiler)[Crazy that they were trying to bring back the Ra'zac! Those priests/that religion is pretty crazy. I am still so so curious about Angela. She can't be human OR she is just SUPER powerful with the magic stuff. (hide spoiler)]

through end of chapter 36 (the word of a rider):
(view spoiler)[Oh snap! Nasuada was taken! Also - what were they going to try to use Elva for as far as trying to save Nasuada? I don't think that was clear. I feel like Arya and Eragon are definitely forming a stronger friendship. I would not be surprised if there is a romance between the two by the end. (hide spoiler)]

through the end of chapter 42 (the torment of uncertainty):

I am super curious to find out what Eragon and Saphira will find at the Rock of Kuthian and what kinds of thoughts/feelings they will have visiting the original home base so to speak of the riders.
I am glad that Nasuada is currently okay - I think she'll be able to get out of this by the end. She's crafty and smart! (hide spoiler)]

through the end of chapter 48 (burrow grubs): (view spoiler)[I'm intrigued by the fact Nasuada took the spoon and is calling that a weapon - as far as cutlery goes, spoons feel the least like a weapon.

through the end of chapter 54 (the vault of souls): (view spoiler)[It's kind of great that Nasuada basically says that Galbatorix wasn't creative enough to truly cause bad nightmares - that her will is stronger. It's just such a subtle insult and I am here for it. I am curious to know Eragon's true name but I also hope that we never learn it. (hide spoiler)]

through the end of chapter 60 (a matter of duty): (view spoiler)[I still cannot wrap my brain around what Eragon, Saphira, and Glaeder found! I legit gasped and hope good things come from this. Also impressive that this segment was eluded to back in book 1 - one of the more impressive parts of writing in my opinion - the ability to plot out so far in advance.
The big battle should be starting next! I'm worried. lol (hide spoiler)]

Forever behind but working on getting caught up again - I honestly don't know if I will finish before the end of the month but will do my best!

through the end of chapter 66 (the name of all names): (view spoiler)[Oh snap! Galbatorix knew about the other dragons?! How?!
Who the heck was the woman who saved Roran? I'm so confused and so intrigued. lol
Oh nos - what is this magic Galbatorix has to prevent magic? And now he has to fight Murtagh?! (hide spoiler)]

Why is everyone always getting kidnapped!
But also, great character development as it forces Eragon to display how much he has actually evolved since the first book.
The Burrow Grubs creeped me out too.
I still got excited when they found the other dragons. It makes me so happy that there's a chance for another generation of riders. . . But also it means big battle time.


I still feel like the ending had a Joss Whedon effect - feels kinda like there's more to tell, but the series just needed to end. . . BUT now at least there are all the others that follow - so I'm not as disappointed. . . I think it's also I'm sad that it's the end of a favourite series that I've cherished for years.

I enjoyed this one and there were definitely a lot of twists & turns. The ending kind of dragged for me in that everything felt wrapped up or wrapped enough for it to end but it was still just one more thing and another thing and just a lot of new possible story threads.
There is at least Murtagh now which is another little peek into that world!
