Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4862 comments Random in Death is the 58th book in J.D. Robb's "In Death" series, featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her super-rich husband, Roarke. This time, Eve is on the case of the seemingly unconnected attacks on teenage girls who have dropped dead after being injected with a mystery substance. The killer is slowly revealed and readers wonder how Eve will find him, because his murders appear to be totally random. Eve and her partner, Detective Delia Peabody, have to race to figure out who is next, and why these crimes are happening.

Robb always does a great job of detailing the crime and the investigation. The futuristic setting adds to the appeal. Who doesn't want an Autochef? The book updates fans on "the Great House Project" that has had Peabody so giddy over the past few books. Several long running characters get a few minutes of update but the story itself is a well done police procedural.

"Random in Death" is a strong addition to the Eve Dallas series, with action, intrigue and our favorite characters. As always, I listened to the audio version narrated by Susan Ericksen. She is amazing with the voices and remains consistent over the course of 58 books. This story is fast-paced, and I can't wait for #59, Passions in Death out this fall.
