What an amazing book. Just recently finished reading this and it was my first Steampunk read. I'll start by saying that if you've never read a Steampunk book I suggest you start with this one. Seven great stories within a series of solid story telling within a unique genre.

The seven stories are a part of the Galvanic Century series featuring the characters James Wainwright and Alton Bartleby. The duo take to the streets and establishments of London and solve mysteries and like the place they call home they are very reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. One of the main reasons I enjoyed this book was because of the chemistry these two have together and how they not only work well together but the way they are portrayed is flawless. Upbeat, serious and elegant yet down to the nitty-gritty when it comes to getting things done and solving crimes.

Also given that it's within a steampunk setting you get a great blend of Victorian Era/Galvanic Era type of philosophy and style. Each story is told in order of course and each a different tale for the two, I really enjoyed the first couple of stories, "And They Called Her Spider" as well as "Sky Pirates Over London" just to name a few. The last two stories focus on Aldora Fiske who is Alton's fiance and wife to be. She's just as foregoing as her man and delivers a unique sense of eagerness to get things done and prove that being a woman doesn't mean you can't do the same things men can.

I gotta say I'm beyond glad I read this and if your into Steampunk or are looking to check it out I strongly recommend this book. It's got action, mystery, crime and it all comes together quite nicely.

I can't stress and recommend this book enough. It's a great Fantasy/Steampunk read and a great read for those who have never read a Steampunk book before.

Reviving this thread because more people need to read this book. Also I'm reading the next in the series soon.
