Mikaela sat in the middle of the field, surrounded by strawberry bushes. She was listening to an mp3 player type of device that was demigod proof, made by a friend of hers in Hephaestus cabin. She didn’t have to buy music, since all the songs she wanted were put on when she first got it. She was wearing a jean skirt, a black leather jacket, and a baggy blue Nirvana shirt. She hummed along to the song that was being played. Her brown hair was down but was clipped by a small black clip in the back.
Mikaela saw someone skipping through the field. Well, not quite skipping, but certainly not walking. She sighed slightly before going back to humming. She was doodling with a marker on her arm as she listened to the music. She was drawing screech owls from her one reoccurring dream.
She watched the girl from a bit longer before continuing to sketch.

Mikaela watched the girl skip past with an eye roll and slight smile.
They watched the girl climb up the tree, looking like she’d done it many times before. They remembered as a child watching other kids climbing up trees and wishing they could try.
As they continued to watch their mouth hanging open at how much the girl was climbing. The girl was going high, to a point where a fall would be nasty and lethal.
They saw the girl slip, and immediately stood up, their mp3 player falling down, the earbuds slipping out of their ears.
They rushed over to the tree, summoning some of the undead, with skin instead of just skeletons. As the girl continued to fall Mikaela got nervous. They knew the strangers life depended on them, so they commanded in old Norse for the undead to catch the girl.
The undead caught the girl, placing her on the ground. Mikaela rushed to her side. “ᚨᚱᛖ ᚤᛟᚢ ᛟᚴᚨᚤ?” They said before translating. “Are you okay?”

“I asked you if you were okay, and your answer is thanks?” Mikaela asked. She had a Scandinavian accent. “That’s not a valid answer to my question.”
Mikaela couldn’t believe the girl. Whose child was she? Even people from Apollo had enough brain cells to at least be shocked by this experience.
She rolled her eyes, jogging over to her spot to get her mp3 player before jogging back over to the girl.
“Are you okay?” She asked. “What’s your name?”

“Mikaela de la Rosa, from Hermes cabin. I’m unclaimed.” She said, her accent thick on her words. She felt a pang in her heart as she said her last name. “My friends call me Miks.”
“What cabin are you in?” She asked, fidgeting with the earbuds of her mp3 player.
“What cabin are you in?” She asked, fidgeting with the earbuds of her mp3 player.
“I know who my mother is,” Mikaela replied. “She just has chose not to claim me.” She said with a shrug.
Her mother didn’t have a cabin, and even though Chiron knew of her heritage, Mikaela wasn’t claimed.

“You’re welcome.” Mikaela said before trying to make a conversation. “What Eris the goddess of? I’ve never heard of Eris before.”
Mikaela nodded. “My mother, she isn’t a Greek goddess.” They explained, after feeling bad that the they didn’t tell her who their mother was despite her telling them who her mother was. “I’ll leave it up to you to piece together who she is though.”
“Yeah, but she doesn’t have a cabin, and I have no half siblings.” Mikaela said. “And when people find out who she is they distance themselves from me. She’s from Norse mythology.”
“They aren’t jerks. They stay away because my mother is dangerous. Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, rules two of the nine realms: Hel, land of the dead, and Niffleheim, land of eternal ice. With a simple touch, she can cause gods to perish, but Hela's purpose is to receive Asgardian souls, as well as their followers.” Mikaela said.
“My mother can kill gods with a touch, that’s pretty dangerous and unusual. My grandfather is Loki, he was regarded by the ancient Norse people as the god of mischief, trickery, and deception.” Mikaela said.
“I’m not that powerful, most of my powers are weak except for 5 maybe.” Mikaela said, surprised Sullivan hadn’t left. “And your mother is more important than that.”
“I’m nothing special…” Mikaela said, thinking back to her childhood. “That’s what was always told to me by my father at least.” She said with a soft sigh.
“I think mine’s still in jail, or maybe he got released? I don’t really know.” Mikaela said with a grimace. “He’s been imprisoned since I was seven, though he probably did get released by now.”
“Well, I’m never going to see him again because he’s the source of all my childhood trauma, so I’m really indifferent.” Mikaela said nonchalantly.
“He’s sounds horrible.” Mikaela said honestly, leaning against the tree Sullivan fell from. “No offense of course.”
“You seem like the type of girl a parent would want to visit though.” She added. Mikaela usually wasn’t the person to try to be nice but Sullivan hadn’t left like most people would and she was thankful for that.

Mikaela nodded. “Yeah, that’s understandable. I suppose I would too.” She said, looking down at the ground. Her right foot was on the trees roots while the other one was resting on the lower trunk of the tree.
Mikaela fidgeted with her mp3 player, a habit she had of doing while talking with people.

“Do you need any help getting there or can you manage?” Mikaela asked, looking down at Sullivan.
Mikaela saw the cuts and wounds she was talking about, and winced, since they reminded her of her past ones from her childhood.

Mikaela nodded. “See you around then?” They said, string down at the roots of the tree and putting in their earbuds before Sullivan could even answer.
“I don’t think this tree is a good tree considering you fell from it earlier.” Mikaela said. “How about this one?”
She walked over to a nearby tree that was just as tall as the other one.
“This one look good to you?” She asked, looking up at the tree. “Doesn’t look like there’s much birds or stuff in here.”

Mikaela sighed. She walked over the tree and began to climb. She muttered prayers to Hela under her breath in old Norse as she climbed. She was a little nervous, but she had her zombies to break her fall.
“Coming!” She said, continuing to climb and mutter under her breath. “Is this even remotely safe?”

Mikaela sighed. “Would it be cheating to summon some zombies to break my fall?” She yelled up at Sullivan.
“You know what, I don’t even care.” She muttered under her breath. “I don’t want to die today.”

Mikaela nodded. She was wondering if it was too late to back out, and if she were to purposefully fall if that’d be bad.
Mikaela watched with a sigh, knowing she’d have to do the same.
She climbed a bit higher than jumped to a branch near Sullivan’s. She stumbled a little but gripped a higher branch to make sure she wouldn’t fall. She moved over to the branch below Sullivan’s, giving her a thumbs up.
“Good job!” She said with a smile.

Mikaela’s eyes widened as they watched Sullivan fall. Luckily she caught a branch, though it wasn’t the one she intended.
They let out a sigh of relief as they saw Sullivan grab a branch.
“Are we doing one more jump after this or?” Mikaela asked, looking down at Sullivan as she jumped and stumbled a bit yet again.

Mikaela stumbled off the branch, and found herself falling through the air.
She summoned zombies to break her fall, and it worked. When she landed though, the air was knocked out of her lungs.

Mikaela took deep breaths, trying to get air back in her lungs. She nodded, unable to speak quite yet.
She looked quite odd sprawled out on zombies she summoned, trying to catch her breath.

Mikaela smiled and nodded. Her lungs had gone back to normal but she wanted to give it a minute before speaking.
She gave Sullivan a thumbs up as if to say yes and also that she was okay. She sat up feeling a bit dizzy.

“Worse has happened to me.” Mikaela said with a shrug and a smile. “But yeah, if you still want to go. I may not pole vault though.”
Mikaela nodded. “Yeah sure! That’s fine with me.” She smiled at Sullivan before sitting back down on the zombies.
“Bye then.” Mikaela said, waving before standing up and un-summoning the zombies. They slipped their earbuds in their ear.
