I'll nominate Gemini Cell by Myke Cole for militaryBridge of Birds: A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was by Barry Hughart for humorous.
I'll second Lamb.
So far humour hasColour of magic
Lamb....
To say nothing of the dog
Mort
Bridge of birds
military has
Fortress Draconis
Gemini cell
Scourge of the betrayer
Yes it is - Myke Cole is strictly modern day fantasy mixed with modern day Armed Forces - magic all over the place. It's urban fantasy with soldiers instead of detectives.

1) Military Fantasy- The Way Into Chaos (First in a trilogy.)2) Humorous Fantasy: I'm torn between two books, so I'd like to see which (if any) gets a nod, if that's possble. Either The School for Good and Evil, or Half Upon a Time
I checked through the archives, don't see that any of the trio has been picked before, unless I missed it.
OK, we'll discount those, though it's somewhat disappointing! :)How about we replace it with "The Legend of Jig Dragonslayer? (That's actually the omnibus edition; first book is Goblin Quest.)

Goblin quest is fine.
Bev wrote: "Also nkt sure about Lamb either."Regarding Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal this is how it is described on the author's site: 'Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes.' I would consider this humorous fantasy.

You may however there are many people on here who could find it offensive from a religious perspective. I am pretty sure that it will cause trouble and will probably only be read due to this conversation however if you say it fits the bill I will add it.

I'm sure people will read the description and decide whether they think it's a good choice or not. If they are offended by it they simply don't have to vote for it.
Land of Mist and Snow by Debra Doyle and James D. Macdonald for military. To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis for humor.
Oops sorry I clicked the wrong month I had previously read different guidelines and came back to comment
Second To Say Nothing of the Dog.Nominate Mort (terry pratchett) for humorous.
I hope that's an OK nom... I'm a discworld virgin and I think it's the first of the "death" sub series?
Have no idea what to nom for military so I'll leave that to someone else.
I second Mort. I don't know what to vote for military either. Don't really have any in the subgenre floating around.
Not sure what all falls under military fantasy, so here is some guesses that I enjoyed.Blood Song by Anthony Ryan
The Red Knight by Miles Cameron
or
The Red Knight by K.T. Davies
I feel like there are a ton of series that don't really have armies or military units going at it until later into the series. It seems to be a main point of progression for many trilogies.
Looking forward to both the themed reads! For military fantasy Hawkwood's Voyage by Paul Kearney
For humorous fun fantasy The High Crusade by Poul Anderson (I see it is shelved as fantasy/sci-fi, I hope it qualifies).
I second The Red Knight and Bridge of Birds: A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was.

From the descriptions I have read, It seems thatTo Say Nothing of the Dog crosses several genres. I have not read the book but it seems to have elements of Historical Fantasy, Science Fiction Fantasy, Steam Punk, and just plain Humorous Fantasy. I think we should be allowed to vote on it.

You're totally right, but in my defense, kind of difficult with a smartphone. I second The Red Knight by K.T. Davies instead of the same by Miles Cameron.
I'd like to second, "Black Company" for military. I read it a few years ago, and loved the really unorthodox style.
Bev wrote: "Guys please check that we have not read the book before nominatkng and seconding."
As a fairly new member, it took me a bit to figure out to check the bookshelf for every book I was interested in reading. Unfortunately, a lot of the books I was interested in had been already read. One such book was Chronicles of the Black Company. I only point this out because I really wanted to nominate it. Sorry to all that wanted this one.

I'd like to nominate Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan for military fantasy. It is the first in the Powder Mage trilogy, and (yay) all three books are published if anyone decides to go ahead after and finish them. :)
Just read the final choices of June 2015, and decided not to take part this month. I've got a lot of other reading I'm already hoping to do. And neither selection appeals to me. I don't care much for serial novels, and neither of these sounds like something I want to get into at this time.
