You could look at the photos at Goodreads author pages, or you can google the faces of the classical masters- the better is the author, the more poignantly sad (but very beautiful!!) his or her eyes are :)

Raven | 22 comments Well Tolkien saw war. Poe tragic deaths in family. It think they had sad eyes because they endured great suffering, and when the scars run deep enough you mask it everywhere, but in your eyes. Many great authors in images aren't smiling either. Just my thoughts I am sure others have their own opinions.

I agree with you, Raven :o)

To be able to share the eternal truths with the humanity, one has to endure some wounds in his heart first, right? I love this quote by Rumi:

"The wound is the place where the light enters you".
