I will add a nomination for The Hours Before Dawn by Celia Fremlin. Published in 1959. Won the Edgar Award for Best Novel.
It's time to close the nominations. Two seems too little, so I am adding: Precious Bane by Mary Webb.
I won't vote but I can get hold of one of Wharton's ghost stories, so if the Wharton nomination is successful I will join in for the stories I can get hold of. :)
The Hours Before Dawn was great; the first book of hers I read, and I'm very happy that Faber are now doing a great job at bringing her back into the spotlight. I'd love to read both Precious Bane, and The Ghost Stories Of Edith Wharton, so I'll wait and see what happens with this one.
