Peggyzbooksnmusic | 613 comments Alice; Great idea to start this thread! Will have to give this some thought. I know WWII has been covered a lot but I've been wanting to read A Killer in King's Cove by Iona Whishaw. Series is set in 1940's Canada which is a change of pace from WWII Europe.

I just got that book. Maybe she will be our October author!

QNPoohBear | 773 comments I'm a 19th-century fanatic plus early 20th c. until the onset of WWII. I like elegant drawing rooms and high society.

Alyssa Maxwell is a go-to author for me.

I also like that time period.

I enjoy the roaring 20's, ancient Rome and Egypt, 1800's, WWI.

I like books set all over the world. So many are in Victorian England though.

I also own a copy and just need a push to read it.

Sandy | 1637 comments I am currently enjoying a series set in Egypt in 1909 when it was under Bristish 'protection': The Mamur Zapt and the Return of the Carpet (Mamur Zapt, #1) by Michael Pearce . I find it different from many of my normal reads.

Helen (helenfrominyocounty) | 235 comments I read HMs set in the UK pretty exclusively, but do step out for good authors.

Two of my favorites right now are Graham Brack with his Master Mercurius series, set in William and Mary times -- the latest is #8, The Moers Murders The Moers Murders (Master Mercurius Mysteries Book 8) by Graham Brack , set for release September 13. The historical accuracy and the humor are a terrific combination.

The other is A.M. Stuart, whose new book (#6) is Agony in Amethyst Agony in Amethyst (Harriet Gordon #5) by A.M. Stuart , set in pre-WWI Singapore. So glad she decided to continue the series!

I have plenty other "favorites," but these are the two that came immediately to mind.

Dawn Allman | 142 comments I know I am one of the outliers, but I like anything in the Middle Ages or before. I really love Peter Tremayne, Priscilla Royal, Ann Swinfen, P.C. Doherty, Lindsey Davis, Ariana Franklin, Pat McIntosh, Ellis Peters, Candace Robb and CJ Sansom.

I also like many of those authors. A few months ago we read Ann Swinfin and I really liked her book 1.

Katy | 227 comments I also like some of those authors. I used to stick pretty much to 19th century and very early 20th century, but now I am enjoying a lot of books back to the middle ages. I'm still not too crazy about Roman times though.

My favorite author that writes in Roman Times is Steven Saylor. I really enjoy Gordianus The finder our main character. Book one is Roman Blood
