Alice; Great idea to start this thread! Will have to give this some thought. I know WWII has been covered a lot but I've been wanting to read A Killer in King's Cove by Iona Whishaw. Series is set in 1940's Canada which is a change of pace from WWII Europe.

I also like that time period.
I enjoy the roaring 20's, ancient Rome and Egypt, 1800's, WWI.
I like books set all over the world. So many are in Victorian England though.

I am currently enjoying a series set in Egypt in 1909 when it was under Bristish 'protection':
. I find it different from many of my normal reads.
I read HMs set in the UK pretty exclusively, but do step out for good authors. Two of my favorites right now are Graham Brack with his Master Mercurius series, set in William and Mary times -- the latest is #8, The Moers Murders
, set for release September 13. The historical accuracy and the humor are a terrific combination. The other is A.M. Stuart, whose new book (#6) is Agony in Amethyst
, set in pre-WWI Singapore. So glad she decided to continue the series!I have plenty other "favorites," but these are the two that came immediately to mind.

I know I am one of the outliers, but I like anything in the Middle Ages or before. I really love Peter Tremayne, Priscilla Royal, Ann Swinfen, P.C. Doherty, Lindsey Davis, Ariana Franklin, Pat McIntosh, Ellis Peters, Candace Robb and CJ Sansom.

I also like many of those authors. A few months ago we read Ann Swinfin and I really liked her book 1.

I also like some of those authors. I used to stick pretty much to 19th century and very early 20th century, but now I am enjoying a lot of books back to the middle ages. I'm still not too crazy about Roman times though.
